Good Mini for a beginner

Hi, I\'m just wondering if you know of any good minis for a beginner ( fair amount of deatail but not uber hard). A GW one would be good beacause there is one real close to me.

Thanks

It seems...

For WH40k...A space marine may be a good place to start. A basic foot soldier type is not overly detailed with fiddly parts and gives you good areas to practice blending, blacklining, highlighting, etc. etc.

An Ogre may be good too. The larger size makes it a bit easier, plus all the same sorts of things I said about the Space Marine.

Paint something up and Post it...Folks here will give you honest feedback!!

I agree with Vikey - marines are a good place to start. The Emperors Champion is a good, clean mini and has a nice bit of cloth to paint as well. Makes a cool display model - check out Anders version!

I\'d go with a marine. I wouldnt recommend an ogre for a beginner. I thought I knew how to paint flesh till I stared an ogre army. Cant hide all your mistakes behind a tatoo you know. I think GW sell paint sets with marines in them.

Well, I started with a GW Starter Set.

They do a W40K with space marines and a Fantasy one which I bought.

Hi Eraserhead... welcome to the forums...

I agree, space marines could be a good starting point. My choice would probably be something from the Celtos line though. These are much nicer figres than SMs and have enough detail to get your teeth into and when you progress they are very suitable for more advanced stuff too.

Also, check out Hasslefree minis.... in fact, anything sculpted by Kev White!

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I think these are quite good, because they have some details, but not too much. They also have a lot of character which makes them more fun to paint.

I noticed that. Seems to be true though. I get my GW stuff from a \"Shipping\" free online store here in England and they are offering them for £5.40.

At these prices for a \"Painters starter pack\" surely they can\'t be beat?

I\'d hardly call the two pea-sized skulls-on-a-stick models. They are crap and not even worth undercoating!

That leaves the other three, and they are very small (but quite cool) miniatures, so that blister is still not particularly good value!
