I reckon the wolfen are excellent for natural tones, or dirz for NMM and light techniques. But all are a challenge in themselves.

Rackham minis generally have smaller, more delicate details than GW minis, for instance. But, then there\'s differences between different armies. For instance Griffins generally have smooth armour and long flowing robes where most of the details consists of belts, straps, chains and smaller objects. The Cynwalls, on the other hand, have armour covered in filigree so there you have details all over the mini. I\'d say, if you\'re used to painting GW minis, the easier Rackham minis are like a medium difficult GW mini.

Hmmmm..

All Rackham miniatures are a challenge to paint.

A brick is a challenge to paint, it just depends upon the standards you wish to paint it to:cool:

I just ordered my first big batch of Rackham stuff and the challenge looks to come before I even lay a base coat on. Prepping them to paint is going to be so horrible. I don\'t quite understood why people moan about GW having lots of badly cast stuff but never much about Rackham.

I ordered a load of Rackham stuff from their own store and about 20% of it has really nasty amounts of difficult to get at and really unfortunately positioned flash. They also seem to have a real problem lining up their moulds, with miniatures basically in two very uneaven halves. Anyone else experienced this? Perhaps it is because I ordered a lot of older models - early Lions and Griffons.

I know GW has some shockers too, but with them I find it is the odd one or two absolute horrors, wheras with the Rackham stuff there are a heck of a lot of quite bad casts. It\'s not what I was expecting to be honest.

And to get back to the initial question! If you are going to do a Rackham mini for the first time you might as well truly embrace the Frenchness and paint the most French looking figures they do, which I\'d say is these chaps, particularly the dudes on the left. Lots of details too so should be a nice challenge.

it\'s the older models mate.

rackham are realy bad at knowing when to retire a mold.

try wet and dry paper on a cocktail stick for the hard to reach places. (i got that one from ritual)

Yeah, I\'ve also had bad experiences with their older models. If the casts are really bad I\'d contact Rackham about it. Of course, it could be difficult getting a better cast, but still, out of principle if naught else... They need to be reminded about the situation! :)

Cheers!

Well I guess it may be worth an email to them even if nothing comes of it. If enough people do the same there would have to be something done eventually. It definately looks to be the old ones that are the problems. The new stuff is really pretty good to be honest.

It wouldn\'t be so bad, but I find it hard enough to get going with minis and having to spend hours prepping means that they are destined to be forgotten about and burried in a drawer very soon.

Wet and dry on cocktail sticks is way more faffing about than I usually endure!

So true finn17.

With Rackham minis I find it challenging enough just prepping the little d00ds without breaking \'em into a zillion pieces. Many Rackham minis are very fragile so watch out.

I think you should always pin joints whenever it\'s physically possible. It will save you plenty of grief.

Kleenex to Mike\'s desk please, Nasal Coffee spill.

Although we have yet to be graced to one of Steve\'s mini\'s on here I have it on good authority that he actually has painted a mini and despite his denials of any ability it is rather good.

Yes buzz them an email. You will have no problems getting stuff changed. Their customer service is a little slow, but good.

I like the Goblins and any of the Dwarves (either the good guys or the bad).

Son of Thunder is a sweet Orc mini. I like the Thermo Warriors or Forge Guardians from Tir-Na-Bor, or just about any Mid-Nor Dwarves.

It is really up to you, choose what you like. I like the more cartoony minis, personally.

Someone mentioned a resin titan. Do Rackham make these? Or is someone just confusing them with Privateer Press?
