Right, I have officially found out the amount of alcohol that will give me a hangover thanks to last night. The recipe is as follows:

* Half a bottle of Tequila done as shots.
* x 1 Zombie
* x 1 Pint of Beer
* x 1 more shot of Tequila

Oh my lord my head has been spinning all day...Time for a bottle of water, then bed! Oh yeh, and I'm officially Tea total now too! Sod having a headache like this again.Have I said that my head is spinning? ....

What are your alcohol experiences? Good bad or just plain ugly?

When my grandfather died I found some old homemade wine. It was in one of those glass gallon jars and there was about 2 inches left in there. Along with some sediment.
I drank it all in one night and was sick for the next three.

Nice, sounds like your gramps was a bit of a clever boy!

I tend not to drink much and when I do, I am very good at knowing my limits so don't have a ton of scary stories. I did push myself on my 18th though and drank so much that I stopped breathing, twice. Thankfully my folks are medically trained and knew what to do. They said if I had done it one more time they would have taken me to hospital

Used to drink loads but not so much any more specially since little one came along changing nappies playing etc not so good with a hang over ......but there was the last real ale festival.

The local football club Lewes had the real ale society over with fifty different bitters and ales etc 50p a half so lovely summers day last year missus said ok you enjoy yourself with your mates but don't forget I've got to go out to see the girls tommorow your looking after jasmine.

So the first couple went down real smooth and realy good conversation before you know it I'm on my 7th half then it seemed a good idea to drink with my rugby mates pint for pint. Then it seemed a good idea to see if we could do every different beer. Got to about the 23rd in sharp ish time 7 halves and 16 pints. They took pity on me and ordered me home. Violently sick all night saying hello to god on the big white telephone.

The wife was not happy at all having to cancel on her friends as I was in nooooooo state to look after a hyper 3 year old which she explained to me in rather sharp loud words repeatedly . Needless to say I haven't done that again! Shudders with the fear of beeing that pissed again;)

I believe a zombie is a very strong rum based cocktail (maybe 2-3 different types of rum with orange juice?).

Let me look it up! dum dum da dum...

"The Zombie is a cocktail made of fruit juices, liqueurs, and various rums, so named for its perceived effects upon the drinker."

Looks like it typically includes three types of rum, apricot brandy and orange juice. I've had them before and can actually be quite tasty, although I often steer clear of fruit based cocktails.

I'm not totally alcohol free I will drink if there is a good reason (and it has to be a good reason) but I quit drinking when I was about 24 since I decided to get in shape.. best thing I ever did.

I drank rather heavily during my university days - worst thing I remember was finishing a quarter of a bottle of single malt (10 yr old Glenmorangie, if I remember right) in about 15 seconds flat. Topped it up with 2 rum-and-cokes and a pint after that at the pub. Wound up tossing chunks in the toilet at Curlers - and the pub bouncers quite rightly chucked me out after that.

I'm much more selective nowadays - I've learnt to make a single whisky last an entire night out. Plus, having climbed up the corporate ladder somewhat, I'm very picky about what I drink. When you get to my age, gotta watch what you put in the body - it takes a helluva longer to dispose of it.

Man, I miss being 21 all over again :).

Complete lightweight these days.
Two pints/bottles max over two hours and I'm really selective on what it is as well. (Even so that's only twice a year)
Leffe for choice, failing that the best imported Belgian/German beer around.
Otherwise its a bottle of white wine while watching a movie on a Saturday night, followed by a cup of tea and some water.

Haven't had a 'hangover' for a long long time, and in fact the last time I can even recall thinking "I've had enough" was at a nephews wedding in Scotland back in 2006.
Even then woke up without a hangover.

21st birthday i drank 17 pints of strongbow. I wasnt sick but got to my house and couldnt even get keys out of my pocket.

Slept in the bush and woke up 15 hours later...... never been like that since.

All of the above. The trick to booze is to enjoy the drink it's in. I love beer, but not the garden variety stuff. Since I spent $20 on a 22oz bottle of whatever craft/microbrew, I don't feel bad having one and stopping. Drunk and hung over are not the way to go thru life.

27 and never had a drink...ever, plan to keep it that way. I struggle to keep fit 'n healthy anyway so I figure why throw piss into the mix. it does make it hard when in a social setting but i manage to get by with a coke or LLB. I paint stuff and play games instead :p lol

I have a really mixed history with booze.

One constant throughout - I get damned squiffy after just a few decent sized sips of an alcoholic beverage, but then I level out. The amount of booze I can level out for depends on my drinking regularity at the time. These days I only drink about once a week and in a calm, slow-paced way, so anything more than 3 pints of proper job cider or 4 of a decent ale (based on the percentages generally present in them) will be my limit before drunkeness increases rapidly. That's fine though as I go for quality over quantity.

I have an extremely addictive personality and always need to watch out for that. I'm well aware that I am capable of hammering booze by now and thus avoid doing it. My grandpa was an alcoholic (not an unpleasant one by any means, but hardcore about his booze) yet lived to the ripe age of 95. My dad drinks more fine wine than he probably should. I make sure I limit myself these days as: I don't see any point going mental, I'm quite comfortable just drinking water at a pub every so often and I truly despise hangovers.

But, like I say, I've had my moments. Millennium new year I drank 10 pints and 10 Jack Daniels chasers before midnight, got off with my mate's girlfriend and about another 20 girls (this is more girls in one night than for the rest of my life) and still managed to walk home at 6 in the morning. I'm not proud, but I guess everyone needs a story like that in the bank.

At university, during my journalism degree me and some others interviewed the New Zealand Maoris rugby team. They then took us out drinking. I kept up with them (and it was quite a pace, let me tell you), got the last train back to uni, went out to the student's union and continued drinking until 4am and finished up with a party back at mine.

First year out of uni I was a games journalist. That lifestyle is booze heavy. I'd go out a minimum of three times a week, often more, and get pretty hammered. It was also usually free booze and (if we went) a free meal. Games PRs would always be visiting and using their company credit card to buy us stuff. Fun times, but that's the only time in my life I went over 11 stone. I had beer created jowls that even my mega-high metabolism couldn't counteract.

Since then there have been several years where I went teetotal, but now I just have a very comfortable place with booze. I drink good stuff (ciders, ales or proper job scotch) now and almost always limit myself to a sensible pace and volume.

The last time I was truly pissed was this new year. Drinking games involving vodka = bad times. I'm getting older now though and the hangover lasted for like an entire day. I can most definitely live without that!

I've a love/hate relationship with booze. I love it, it hates me. It must do, the things it does to me.

Like the time a bottle of that strong stuff folk bring back from holidays made me hyper, scared a girlfriend with that and my manic attempts to hide in the kitchen cupboards.

Or the habit it fostered in me. Of travelling home on the train with a hot chocolate held above my lap, so that if I nodded off after a few too many glasses of sleepy juice I'd scald myself awake. Too many nights after a beverage I'd fall alseep on the train you see.
One time I found myself at a train station so far from home I was resigned to not making it back, but figured I could made the journey cheaper the next day by starting to walk to the next station while I was awake. Ripped my trousers walking along the tracks in the night, and then turned out I was walking the wrong direction anyway.Nicked some paper from a newsagents early delivery and made camp on the station. Scared the early commuters shitless when the train pulled in and the pile of refuse exploded into a vaguely human shape.
Another time I woke up after I should have gotten off. A nice chap enquired what I was going to do. Sleep at the station I s'pose. He said that'd kill me, it was cold an all, offered me his sofa. What a nice chap. Had a car waiting at the station. He told the cab driver he was an actor, recently divorced. Inside, he offered me a cuppa and toast, asked if I liked films. Said sure, I'd just seen Braveheart. No no, he added for clarity, blue films... It was at that point I blacked out. My mind returned to me about noon the next day. I was at work. The others said I'd walked in, not said anything and just started working and out that down to me being me. Checked myself, had a train ticket that for the life of me I couldn't see how I'd got to it from where I had been, but didn't show any signs of being buggered so I've ever taken that as meaning nothing untoward happened. :s

I was drinking a fair bit for years. Not frequently,but when the occasion arose I'd kinda make up for lost time. Would use it as a means to get over my inhibitions. Friends of that time remember me most as standing on the edge of the dance floor, not quite ready to cut loose, a double vodka in each hand.

The thing that stopped all that. At a pub, I got lucky with a girl I had fancied for years. Ended up at hers. Course, my blackout occured way before that, I didn't even remember us getting familiar at the pub. When I became conscious we were chatting on her sofa. Next night, I apologised for what I thought was presumptious behaviour in getting myself a night on her sofa. She must have throught I was backpedaling and apologising for letting anything occur, avoided me after that. So that was it for me and getting drunk. What's the point of it lowering inhibitions and making things happen, if you can't ruddy remember any of it. Pfsh.

Here is a tip. Liquor before beer never fear, beer before liquor never sicker. Whenever I came home from a night of heavy boozing I would take a B complex or multi vitamin with a big glass of water and you will wake up the next morning feeling much better then if you had not taken them. Aspirin is the wrong thing to take it doesn't help you liver.

Oh...I'm about done drinkin' after the last few horrible outings. I never really liked to drink a lot, as my light weight can't take it very well, and my Dad's family has quite a bit of alcoholism (my folks split because of it so I have always been a bit wary).

At this point in my life (37) I no longer drink "on my own" - meaning there are two beers in my fridge that have been there for several months - I just never have the urge to drink 'em - but if a friend came over and wanted one I might have one with. I used to really enjoy a beer....

The biggest problem with it for me is that it can make a night loads of fun if properly paced, but it can be hard to judge, and once I've had too much it ruins the evening.

My last outing was a friends birthday party last summer. I'm a DJ, and my friend who had the birthday rented a really nice place and had myself and another DJ friend play. I had a few pints and was about to have some dinner when it got to be my turn to play a set. So I did, and forgot all about eating...Of course the pints kept a' comin' while I played the music, and I was having a really good time (and wasn't hungry thanks to the pints). Later we all went downtown to keep the party going, but my enjoyment ended there. Went into this bar, which had a pretty good band and some nice ladies dancing and such, but soon I went outside to make phone call. I walked to the nearby park, and as I pulled out my cell phone it flew out of my drunken hands and down a 12 foot cliff (can you tell I'm American LOL?). A friend was with me and we climbed down to try and find it. We didn't (the cliff ended right by a sidewalk along a river) so we both crawled drunkenly back up the cliff. From there my friend continued back to the bar, but I could only crawl myself to a nearby tree for a nice puke-fest. I could hear the band playing, and knew that 50 ft. away my friends were having a great time - but me....not so much. I passed out by the tree for maybe an hour or three, then summoned the strength to walk the half mile to the house I was staying at. What would have been a great night was ruined by my lack of eating (I only had maybe 5-6 pints), and misjudged tolerance. There is a fine line, and I definitely crossed it. I did however recover my cell phone the next day...it was under a bench just inches from the water - battered but still working.

Though I never was a big drinker I used to go out and enjoy one or two, and sometimes could enjoy a drunken adventure (and usually had a nice Jamison or three when I DJed). However at this point I really lack any desire to risk making myself sick - it's just not worth it! I have also found that alcohol is just too sweet tasting for me theses days. Liqueur tastes way too sweet for me, and beer even tastes really too sweet for my taste - so I rarely drink now. Have I learned my lesson? I hope so....LOL
