Gore, spit, etc

Another "what crappy product did i just buy".

I saw tutorial about using uHu glue to make string of gore/spit/etc, but fore some reason, people are saying that this kind of uHu glue cant be found where i live, that it's impossible to purchase it (ok, seeya!). So i, once again, went to a craft store, and started searching for a stringy glue (yeah, you wouldnt believe the face people made when i explained what i was looking for). In the end, i found something called "String Gel" from Liquitex... Anyone ever used it? I can't seem to get it to string properly, or at all... its either gluey, or solid, doesnt seem to ever get in a string state... or maybe i understood incorrectly what it is?

I'm getting annoyed with that craft store, that's the 4th or 5th product i get there that simply suck.

If I remember correctly, uHu is a clear cement, so any cement type glue should work. There's also Duco Cement that can do the same thing. Also, try a hardware store for these cement type glues. Just add some ink or a little paint to the cement for color. It looks good when done right!

Excellent call on the Duco Cement - that stuff drives me nuts! But come to think of it, remember the old Testor's cement for plastic models? That stuff used to string like crazy. Try touching a toothpick to the opening of the tube, point tube downward slightly so gravity helps. Don't squeeze you only want a small dab on the toothpick. Slowly pull toothpick away - should string like crazy.

Of course, that probably only works when you don't want it to.

I was also looking for something. I remember reading that you have to find the flammable stuff. I found loads of stuff like UHU but non worked until I found one with flammable written all over it.

Hot melt glue? That stuff always strings like crazy when I use it. You can even buy coloured glue sticks.

OMG! Finn, I can't believe I forgot that too! Geez, you guys are bringing back all of these glue nightmares. I think I blocked them from memory but now I remember nearly throwing the gun across the room as I tried my first attempts at terrain...a nice wattle fence and the damn hot glue stringing EVERYWHERE!!!! I used it once and haven't touched it since.

if your looking for a dripping blood or drool effect try using a human hair and adding a small amount of glue to it to thickin it.

Depends what you are trying to achieve...I wouldn't want to get UHU near a mini either. I would be aiming to make the effect and then attach it when happy with it.

I'd be more tempted to go fine fishing line or long hair dipped in Water Effects a few times and allowed to dry overnight.
Ok might take a few more days to achieve the effect, but might be more "In Scale".

Or even do the same with PVA, usually dries clear.

I have archieved good results with my girlfriends uv-hardening fingernail-gel when trying to make stained glass windows. Might be worth a try in your case too....
But you will probably get even more funny looks when trying to explain what you are after in one of those nailshops than in that craftstore :-D

It works fine for what it's intended for (see website) but by itself it's not the ideal thing for directly creating the effect you want. It's for making stringy mixtures - long rheology - with acrylic paint, but it won't naturally make 'free-standing' structures if you know what I mean.

But it should be usable with some of the other tips.

Another thing you could try is making long strings on a surface (Teflon sheet, non-stick baking tray, sheet of glass) to be attached later. To make the strings dip a brush or other tool in it, or a mix of it and paint*, and wave it back and forth over the surface, it should form long wiggles no problem. After it's dried peel it off, cut up as necessary and glue in place, maybe drip some extra medium down some strands etc.

*10% paint or so by volume.

Deserres is Canadian...so you're in Canada? Cause we have UHU here. Check Michaels, Walmart, Zellers, Canadian Tire, dollar stores, it's all over the place really. Well I guess you sorted it out, but for future reference.

2 part epoxy glues are great for that sort of thing too. Especially for drips and drool. If you get the "dries clear" type you can add ink to give it a nice transparent effect to see through the pool or stream or drip or or or...similar to any other glue I guess. Just be careful mixing it up, it does get warm, really hot, like melt your mixing cup if you mix an ounce or more and leave it sitting in the plastic cup like I did that one time...gawd, what a mess...what a mistake trying to swipe it up with my finger noticing the pool on the table...took a while to grow my finger prints back! The heat isn't an issue for thin coatings and small drops though.
