GOSH: a Chemistry question on varnishes and alcohol

I\'ve got varnishes from many brands, and I am trying to find out which type of varnish on a mini would resist alcohol.
I know it\'s an odd question but it\'s very very important for a project I have.
all infos welcome
àll jokes about my drinking while painting also welcomed :drunk::drunk:

This is a prime candidate for practical testing! But generally speaking a varnish cleaned up/thinned with spirits won\'t be dissolved by alcohols.

What brands/types do you have by the way?

Incidentally Dullcote, when dry, is soluble in isopropyl alcohol, despite being a \'hot\' finish when liquid; this is specifically so it can be removed from enamels without easily lifting the paint. Although of course this is of no help to the acrylic/vinyl painter :(

I have citadel, vallejo, tamiya, minipaints, coat d\'arm, testor, gunze sangyo (must check).
cheers!
I\'ll trial test of course, but it\'s good to have an idea of how things work (I have no idea which varnish is based on what)
Perhaps I should plastify the mini (if that is possible???)

Coffin Dodger / Keymaster
I\'d paint each one on a 3x5 card, let cure then rub with alcohol and see what happens. Most should just bead up and do nothing.

I pretty sure that urethanes are resitant to mild solvents once cured.

The Citadel, Vallejo, Minipaints and Coat D are all probably acrylic or vinyl of one type or another - I\'d be very surprised if they could withstand anything but a brief exposure to alcohol.

The Testors might be OK; the Gunze I\'d guess is your safest bet, unless it\'s a water-soluble type.

** Einion** isn\'t dullcoat a testor product? Are you alluding to another testor varnish (re your previous post).
Plastify? :-d sorry it\'s probably not a word in english, I meant to cover with a thin layer of transparent plastic, a bit like they do on certain documents to protect them :-D

Indeed it is, I thought (assumed) if you were referring to Dullcote you\'d have said Dullcote.

ahah! other testors, thanks for the links!
I imagine that the floquil which is solvent based would not do - model master would be better you recon?

LAMINATING
in french the verb mean to be cut in many narrow strips and is often used to say I\'m exhausted or they destroy their advocat\'s claims etc.

Have you checked each companies websites?
They might have a FAQ section.

Alternatively, you could check the bottles for the ingredients which could give you more of a clue...

about laminating: I see on this page:
page that resin can be used to laminate...????? does it mean I could cover a mini in transparent resin for protection????????

When you varnish something effectively that\'s what you\'re doing - covering it with a thin coating of resin.

Anyway, back to basics: what is it you\'re looking to do here that you need a mini to be alcohol-resistant?
