i am really not a big fan of \"the smiley makes it ok!\" where someone posts something very uncalled for or hurtfull or both and the thinks that they can make it all better by saying \"oh i was j/k:D\". if someone doesnt mean it then why did they put up there? i dont know i really dont. so all i can say is screw this, id rather hang around a site where they dont put such garbage up in a reply. and whats even sadder is i was impressed by this site when i first got here. Well i guess my feelings were misplaced.

ehy calm down boy i was just joking!!! i started painting to ur level too!! but with calm and with the articles of various sites as CMON i\'ve learned a lot! so.

1-calm down
2-grab ur mouse and start clickin all the articles about blending and colour thinning (u lack especially on this points)
3-try ur tecnique on a old piece u don\'t care anymore (using a re-primed work of yours will be fine)
4-try
5-try again till ur satisfied.

the blending is rather a difficult tecnique to master but with pratice it become much easier as it seems.

what kind of colours do u use? u have always a chalky finish on the model. i suggest u vallejo or citadel colours.

Eric, if you want feedback on your work one of the best ways to get it - sans any emotional content - is to post the images to your gallery here and let the voting commence.

I agree completely that smileys don\'t excuse rudeness but Tony Manero is not being rude, he\'s being blunt and honest (it might read as him being a smart ass in places but that\'s just a difference in posting style). Feedback here can be harsh at times and if we want to get better we need to grow a thick skin and take constructive criticism on board. Let me put it this way, I\'m a decent enough painter but if I posted an image of a mini with brushmarks and stuff in the paintwork and someone pointed it out to me, suggesting I could do better then they\'d be right :)

Trust me on this, you should be grateful for this - on forums where all you see is positive comments like \"Nice job!\" or \"Wow, I like the colours :)\" etc. and the collective consciousness isn\'t comfortable with negative feedback as a whole you tend not to see people growing as artists at much more than a normal pace. But on the other hand... as you probably know a number of members here have posted images and actually asked for them to be ripped apart and these are the very painters that tend to get better faster! You\'ll also sometimes see before-and-after photos posted showing the value of honest critique which you might like to look for.

Tony, duuude, don\'t call him boy when trying to calm a situation down, sheesh <wags finger>

\"Boy\" is often concieved as condescending and demeaning when used to address someone. For example, black male slaves were often called \"boy\" by their masters in the US Southern during slavery.

Eric, may I ask some questions?

How much do you thin your paints?

What is your goal in painting......competition level or solid gaming pieces?

to me, the paintjobs seem rushed, and simplistic - nothing wrong with that at all, but understanding where you want to go will help us give useful advice.

One thing that will help would be to do some lining between the colours to help define and seperate them. A very dark brown or black, applied with a decent brush with a good point would do the trick.

If you\'re going to highlight, you\'ll need much thinner paints and apply them carefully; paint dilution could be anything from water:paint 4:1 to 20:1 we all have our preferences. This is really thin: \"the consistency of milk\" is one way people describe it, \"dirty water\" another. This will take time!!! Be prepared to invest time if you want to improve!

BTW, how old are you? As you said you borrowed the camera from school.......

after cooling off for the night i have to say i did over react, and i am sorry. i made myself look like a total jackass, and im sorry to tony.

and to answer orb\'s questions
I use vellejo (dont know if i spelled it right) game colors so i usually add a few drops of water depending on how much paint i use. usually i use 2:1 ratio of paint and water

my painting goal is just to get solid gaming pieces. there is no way i could paint display quality, i like being able to play the game not just look at the pieces. and i dont have that kind of patience for it either.

ive tried lining before on the reckoner, it turned out very badly because i dont have very steady hands. (i am very gittery and fidgitey when it comes to sitting still)

and im 16 ive only been painting for two years. and yes they are rushed pieces, the most ive spent on a mini was nemo and that was around 45 minutes.

misjudgement...

re: Tony Manero...

I thought, when I first started seeing Tony\'s posts or comments that he was overly harsh at times...But, now that I have \'seen\' more of him I do believe he has no malice in his comments. I can\'t say I always agree with him, and I agree with the statement that the language barrier can get the better of him, but I think he means well....Besides, don\'t take the whole of the community for one person\'s comment .

I agree about the \'smiley\'s don\'t make it all right\' statement.

Once I told my wife her butt looked big in those jeans, but then after I said it, I smiled and said LOL LOL LOL. She still smacked me upside the head.

Re: your painting Eric of Xenia...Getting a \'thick skin\' for criticism is easier said than done, but try to take it to heart. I\'ve been painting for a LOONG time, yet my latest mini is barely over a 6. But, being able to look at it through others eyes I agree its not very good. It will make me reassess some of the things I thought \'worked\'...

Just keep at it.

Ehm, a little question: did you undercoat your models black? If you did, then you may want to use another colour in between before applying your white (grey being a popular choice). Or even undercoat the model white as there is a lot of white on protectorate troops.

I had the same problem with thickness of paint when painting (only done one model so far, but tried some techniques on some models). I found that when i thinned my paint down a lot (and i really mean a lot!! :) ), i had much less coverage, but the paint was much smoother. I thin my paint now approximately 1:1 paint/water, sometimes even less paint (not always, best i can describe it is thickness of milk).

Other than that, keep on working and improving! :)

u can also apply dark brown under the red because more a color is \"up\" in the RGB lesser it attach on the dark base, forming pencilmarks...

Hey Eric I think that it takes guts to back up from your initial reaction like you did.
Also I wouldn\'t discount your improving just because of your current. When I started my figs looked like they had been shat on by a chimp.lol
