grains in the paint.

Why is it that some paints, like vallejo white and the fleshcolours are grainy? It´s been a great while since I used them so I don´t remember if they´ve always been like that. The consensus of this is that these colours are near useless as the grain makes tiny bulbs on the models I paint.

Is there anyone who has any thoughts on this or maybe some advice on what to do?

Buy some new paint.

did you shake them REAL good?

did you let them get too warm? (set in the car on a sunny day)

add an aggitator (see this thread) and shake A LOT.

that doesn\'t work? Filter them through a piece of panty hose or toss em or use them on terrain.

I\'ve had one or two Vallejo paints behave like that and I couldn\'t be arsed trying to \'fix\' them so I just bought new ones.

I have those colors, use them frequently, and don\'t find them any grainier than any other paint.

Of course, I have a Robart Paint Shaker and 2 glass beads in each bottle.

I use little metal skulls in all mine.. helps a lot.

I have one of them paint shakers too..found it totally useless..

I don\'t think it\'s a matter of the paint needing shaking. I think the occasional pot just is like that and there\'s nothing to do about it. I\'ve tried shaking mine like crazy and they are still grainy. But it\'s only one or two out of over 100 paint pots.

Thanks a lot for all the answers. I´ll buy new paint then. Any idea where I can find glass beads or anything similar? And a paintshaker? I´live in Sweden, and I´ve never seen paintshaker in any hobbystore...

Try glass pony beads. Fairly large, and you can get a big plastic tube of the things at Walmart or a craft store like Micheal\'s pretty cheap.

I have some paints that are still usable but man do they ever have a foul smell. Anyone else have that happen?

I have this problem with GW white if I water it down too much. I havent had as big a problem with it since I started putting dish washing detergent into the water.

Only ever had this problem once so far - but I\'ve only been painting since Jan this year.

It was a VGC brown - forget the name, one of the very light ones. I had used it once, when I first bought it and it was fine. That was three months ago. Went to use it last week for some shading and it was grainy. Shook it like mad, mixed a fresh drop with water and it was still grainy. So, like others have said, I threw it away and ordered some more.
