I know that Vin Diesel is a massive Dungeons & Dragons addict. Now there's this. Does anyone else know of a deep undercurrent of geek culture in any celebrities? Does perhaps Martha Stewart trade bolter shots on her Saturday afternoons while serving quiche to her guests?

Yes, I think I'd heard this somewhere. "Toy soldiers" are a pretty quintessential British hobby.

Those of you who only know Cushing from "Star Wars" should run, not walk to the nearest indy video store and try to find some of his cheesy horror flicks from the 60's or thereabouts. They're pretty entertaining. He was also a pretty good Sherlock Holmes.

Quite aside from Peter Cushing, I found it very interesting that H.G. Wells, writer of, among other things, The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, and of course War of the Worlds, wrote rules for toy soldier war games.

indeed, some consider him to be the father of modern wargaming.

Geeks are cool, lets face it.
Some of the most popular people I know are geeks! We are rising up! (While still doing other really cool stuff)

But, oddly enough, he met his own parent, on a time travel to the past, thus becoming his own father, ruining his Time Continuum, and spawning Games Workshop, all at the same time.

Quite a nasty adventure, I dare to say.

Wow, that's cool. He looked like he took it really seriously too.

Einion
He did.
Many, many many years ago Military Modelling did an interview with him and a couple of other actors, Derek Guyler (the caretaker from Please Sir) and Michael Bates (*), who was the original 'Toff' in Last of the Summer Wine and the Punka Wallah/Narrator in It Ain't Half Hot Mum!.
All of them were dedicated Lead Heads.
Having seen that footage (and cringed at the fifties English Plummy Accent patronising voice) His work area looked very familiar to my own...........Only tidier.

(* Reason I remember Michael Bates is that he was my aunts next door neighbour, really nice friendly guy)

Also, the sheer SIZE of that army! Five THOUSAND soldiers, of varying types! I can't even conceive of painting that amount of figs.

Peter Jackson collects - mainly WWI stuff - Quinton Tarantino collects board games mostly. And Little Wars and its sequel are available for download at Project Guttenberg
