Hey everyone,

I am a big fan of RPG\'s and I wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations as to which ones to buy for ps1 and ps2. Please do not leave comments that say stuff like, \"You should be painting not playing video games...\" I know I should be painting but Ihave to have something to do when I am not in the mood to paint :)

RPG\'s that are not made by Sqaure Enix preferably because everyone know about those ones. I mean games like Valkyrie Profile and whatnot.

The Persona series by Atlus are great. A dark setting, excellent game play. and it is actually quite challenging, as if you are not careful, you can actually die in this game, unlike so many of the latest offering where you are invincible when you are halfway in the game

Suikoden series for the truely ludicrous amount of extras and mini games ranging from collecting old books to finding all the background music so someone can sing it to you to finding a rubber duckie for your castle\'s jacuzzi lol

Wild Arms was a fantastic game too although later versions were a bit of a disappointment.

I\'ll second Breath of Fire, I love the fishing minigame.

I\'ll also add Chrono Cross. Yes I know it\'s Square but it was never released over here and was really hard to get hold of. It was probably really common over that side of the pond but back then if it wasn\'t final fantasy Sony seemed to think the British public wouldn\'t play it.

Now THAT is a thread I really like.
Since I am a total sucker for console RPGs here is a list of the best I have played on PS1 and PS2 and of course I stronly recommend.

Here goes:

PS1-

Suikoden 1 and 2, Xenogears, Final Fantasy 7,8 and 9, Hoshigami (horribly difficult!!), Alundra 1 and 2, Tales of Destiny 2, The legend of Dragoon(totaly amazing with great story), Grandia (a must), Vagrant story (gives background elements to PS2 FFXII) and Last but not least the not so known Koudelka which is the prelude to the PS2 Shadowhearts games.

PS2-

Final Fantasy X (NOT X-2
), Final Fantasy XII, All Suikoden titles and Suikoden Tactics, Dragon Quest 8, Shadowhearts 1,2 and 3 (the first 2 being the better ones), Wizardry (be warned, endless dungeon crawling by Atlus.Only for the patient ones.Gives an awesome D&D second edition feeling though;)), and finaly Valkyrie Profile Silmeria.

These I have played from 1998 through 2007. Wish I had time for more but I also need time for other types of games, painting, wargaming, pen and paper rpging my job and an active social life.

Cheers!!:D

Suikoden 2 is the only one of that series I am missing :( I tried to buy it online but I think the prices are greatly inflated because of christmas. I could not find it for less than $80. Tales of Destiny 2 is about the same amount. Maybe they will be cheaper once the christmas shopping season ends.

I miss when gamestop sold ps1 games used. That truely made the old saying \"One mans trash is another mans treasure\" valid because I found gold in the used ps1 section

I don\'t want to pick you but suikoden 2 is in my opinion the BEST ever suikoden game. Characters? Plot? You name it.
As for Tales of destiny 2 they launched it for PSP also last year.Perhaps you can check it out there if you have a PSP.ITs exactly the same game as in PS 1.Copy-Paste.

Nevertheless and (I am doing a bit of highjacking here but I just can\'t help myself :D) the most enjoyable games I have ever played in the genre were on my good old Sega Saturn (sniff).

Don\'t miss any chance to try Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining the Holy Arc, Shining force 3, Dragon Force and of course even though more action than RPG...Guardian Heroes.

You had to say it was the best one :~( Now I want it even more. Hopefully they will still be selling on ebay after christmas and not waiting for the nect holiday season to do so.

I would buy Tales of Destiny 2 on PSP but I do not have one and ultimately it would cost more money than to just buy the game for ps1. I think PSP\'s are like $150 so just buying TOD2 would be cheaper.

Althoug if a did get a psp I could buy valkyrie profile on it so that I do not have to play mine and risk damaging it... eh...

Have you played Ogre Battle? Originally for SNES, I think they released a version for PS1. You must try it, one hell of a game!!

Front mission 3, for the PS1 not sure if it is classed as a true RPG mind. Its a mech game with a good story (its actually has 2 different stories so there is good replay value there)and the chance to customize your characters mechs, the battles are done in a turn based way. I loved that game, very addictive.

Ogre battle was one of the best games ever produced. Quest corp. that developed it was later absorbed by Square in the 90s.A later Ogre Tactics was released for the GBA 2 years ago by Atlus but as all Atlus games go it is HORRIBLY hard. Not an RPG but a platformer by Quest is my top favorite 8-bit nes game of all time: Matendouji or Conquest of the Crystal Palace in the USA. DOWNLOAD AND PLAY ON AN EMULATOR NOW!! You\'ll know what I mean.
As for Front Mission 3 on the PS1 it was a European and Japanese release only. No USA launch if I remember correctly. The game totally rocked.

Well funnily enough there\'s a link to a snes emulator site on the CMoN front page just underneath the menu. Look for the joypad ;)
