Green glowy skulls

Hey all,

I\'m trying to get a real green glowy effect on skulls i have piled on bases. I\'ve tried a couple and as yet haven\'t had the effect i\'m after. Does anyone have any ideas for colours.

I use Vallejo and GW paints.

Cheers,

Shags

I guess it all depends what kind of green glow you want and how intense.. do you have any kind of reference ????

I personally lik scaly gren highlighted up wit either Striking scorp or camo and finished as white,, the scor or camo both give quite different effects..
the intensity can be controlled by just how much colour you use...

If you can give more idea of the effect you want that would help.. al would the light be eminating from the skulls. ?? If so then make sure the eyes and any iopen mouths are the brightest parts.. if the light is ben cast onto them from another source then they would be the darkest parts.

I\'m thinking the skulls themselves are glowing. The kind of colouring is say the dead in LOTR. That kind of flourescent green dead kind of look...

Thinking about this I\'d try to do it this way:
Paint the skulls in normal Bone colours and wash down with Darker tones, Graveyard earth mixed with a tiny amount of Chaos Black.
Then I\'d do the eye sockets and jaws with a dark green and highlight with progressively lighter greens with a spot in the very centre of the eye socket and the edges of the bone and teeth.

That might give you the \"internal glow\" look .

There\'s a thread right now in the WIP section with a guy using a green LED and it looks real good. Should be cheap and easy.

Thanks heaps guys. Think I might try a mix of the glowing eyes and the method dragonsreach pointed out. I\'ll let you know how it turns out.

You can also start out with a gray, and instead of highlighting up to bleached bone gradually work up to rotting flesh. Then do a green wash to tie it together. The rotting flesh already has a green tint so you won\'t have to do as much with the wash.

Having not seen your bases, it\'s tough to say for sure. However, if you have any ground showing not covered by skulls or if you have any other non-skull objects mixed in, you can cast the light from the skulls and illustrate the glow effect that way.

If the bases are entirely skulls, I think you\'ll have to do an internal glow effect (like DR described from the eyes, nose and jaw) or cast the glow up at your figure\'s legs/etc depending how intense you want the glow to be.

Does that help?

your solution to green glowy skulls

For years I have used CREATEX fluorescent green. Its an airbrush color, but when thinned to the right consistancy, and brushed over a white base, it pops with vibrancy. You can see it on three of my models here on cmon, look for my nurgle daemon prince #1, and my chaos sorceror from forgeworld floating above some green flames. Hope this helps! Good luck!
