Green Stuff toxicity

Was hoping someone just might have the answer I'm looking for. The "why" isn't important. If you were to take a small piece of green stuff that has dried to rock hardness in a pebble shape, and sucked on it like the old pebble trick, would the initial toxins seep out or would they be inert due to the chemical reaction of making it into a rock?

Well, the old chemist answer is "depends". Assuming that it was well mixed and in a good ratio of part A to part B and it has been sitting around for a lot longer than the time for "ultimate hardness" for that particular mixture, one is not likely to get a whole lot of anything out of it. FWIW, most of the two part putties used in modelling tend to be more skin/eye irritants (that can cause an allergic reaction) than ingestion hazards/poisons regardless, so even if one were getting a few molecules of whatever out of it, it probably wouldn't cause any problems.

Here's a link to the MSDS for Kneadatite: http://www.physics.purdue.edu/prime...atite ab epoxy putty - Polymeric Systems.pdf

Hope this helps!

Fess up now. How much have you eaten?

Not me, but my cat had a small piece stuck in his back teeth from a gap filling session last week. Not sure how long it was there, but I'd hate for him to start mutating into a chaos spawn...

Thanks Humanitarian for the info.

Ugh. Stoopid catz. One of mine once ate all the toppings from an entire pizza when I was on the phone. No ill effects whatsoever. Then the guy dies of a brain aneurysm like 6 years later when we go out shopping for groceries. Stoopid catz. I won't go into details about his brother who personified the "The Cat Came Back" with is final defiant act of loyalty as his little heart failed at age 13. Stoopid catz. I can't wait to go to the pound with The Agent of Chaos to watch her pick out her first kittens next fall. Stoopid catz.

Moetle, fear not: your cat will be fine! The ill effects of Green Stuff are more from repeated exposure over a long period. For example, if you are a regular user, lick your tools and don't frequently wash your hands, then you ought to rethink your approach.
