Amongst other things, it seems the mullet has ALWAYS been a fashion statement.

Here's the whole story...

I saw this yesterday, it is quite interesting.

I do wish the reporter didn't use the "tool to reconstruct ancient peoples" quote, though. Reporting something like that without the right context makes a scientific hypothesis appear as a scientific fact to people who don't know what they are looking for.

You mean "reconstruct" literally? That would be an interesting interpretation.
With respect to this report, personally, I would wait till publication. The devil, as we all know, is in error margins :). This particular reconstruction was not made by looking it his genome. I assume they actually had skull attached to the hair :)

I would be also cautious to interpret it as an evidence of "migration". Migration is a mass event that results in a massive influx of genetic material from point A to point B, often drowning original genetic make-up of the point B. Singular traveler can hardly affect population (at least genetically) To put in perspective: Is Marco Polo voyage to China a "migration" ?

PS. Also, the claim that this men originated in Siberia is rather vague. Siberia is rather big.

nope. you actually need very few migrants per generation between populations to have a significant (detectable) impact on genetic structure. this is especially true where the introduction of novel alleles is concerned.

migration is not necessarily a "mass event". it simply means to move from one region to another.
Is Marco Polo voyage to China a "migration" ?
yes.
