Hi Yall

This WIP forum seems like soooo much fun, I decided to join in :flip:

Here is my current project, Melekith on black dragon, though the dragon aint black and Malekith has been left out so far...

Id like to hear suggestion concerning the details like horns and fins.. and maybe tips about assembly and preparations which really puzzled me for such a big model...

But more than anything just cheering comments to give me a boost, I got a deadline for this thing :~(

Right, first assembly tip: pin those leg joints! Drill a fat hole, and shove a six-inch nail right through. Then seal up the holes with GS, or whatever.

Next, I hope you\'ve got the tail pinned to the body too. Oh, and the \'hands\' pinned to the arms, and the arms epoxied to the body, and... Oh, did I mention pinning the head to the neck?

If not, it\'s time to do it. Won\'t help your deadline much. :(

You\'ve got some ridges on the dragon\'s belly where the two halves meet. File or scrape that down, and make it nice \'n\' smooth.

That pearlescent effect is very interesting. This is one I want to see painted to completion!

Yeah, looks good so far.

And about pinning.... few things are more heartbreaking than having a model go to pieces in your hands because the glue gives out just as you are painting a crucial detail. If you can lift it and shake it by that part, pin it (okay, maybe that\'s a bit extreme.)

Keep it up!

IMHO you\'d have been better off doing the mouth and teeth first.
That way there\'d be less chance of overpaint/slippage on the rest of the head.

I have to agree about pinning the beast, I have a classic Rock Dragon which has fallen apart so many times now and it\'s only primed.
If it\'s a joint, Pin it. (Mental image of funny cigarette with pin through it. lol )

The ridge lines do need to be removed as they are immediately noticable.

lol First of all DR, I dont pin my joints, I got other use for them...

If I understood correctly, I would have been better off using a long pin and building the dragon around it :p

Well I hope nothing comes off now its too late for pinning.
BTW speaking of holding pieces, what do you use ?
I got crazy glue, #8 Superglue (Lepage)
and #10 Epoxyglue, which could hold a spacecraft together, but is hard and messy to work with...

I got those ridge fixed now, I hate doing this when the painting is under way, I will be more careful next time.

I\'ll take another pic tonight probably.

Well, last two sessions have been quite productive:D

So here is my venomous blue drake now, body is pretty complete, I\'ll start the wings tonight.

Aint it terrifying ? :eek::eek::eek:

Isn\'t this model plastic? If it is plastic then pinning it would have been rather unnecessary as a good plastic glue makes an espically strong bond. I\'m just chiming in now because I saw the box mini in my local GW store, picked it up to take a peek (because of your post here) and noticed how light it was.

Love the colours your using there green one, maybe a dark wash in the mouth area to darken up the gums etc and where the horns join the main body, and the head horns as well:D Oh and the claws, darken up those areas, keeping the highlight at the ends.

P.S. those wings are a nighmare, good luck:D

@MPJ: The \'generic dragon\' pieces are plastic whilst the \'black dragon\' pieces are metal, only the head is 5 pieces... not to mention the fittings; that dont fit:|~

@Krom: You know how much I value your advices;)
If you mean a nightmare because they wont fit right, I noticed that, greenstuff will be required.

I might be done with the wings tommorow so expect new pics soon.

This is looking great, I especially like the stippley scales on his belly. The greens and blues work very well together. Can\'t wait to see this finished.

Hi Y\'all !

The wings took a little more time than I expected, but I finished them tonight, I also did some progress on the base.

have a look a my latest attempt at gore:

If you\'re wondering, the story is that the dragon spat acid on a rider, thus destroying the horsie, then tramples it just for spite as he makes it\'s way...
Wondered why it looked so proud and happy ( For a dragon) ? Thats why.

Anyway, I just got the beast together and couldn\'t wait to show it around so have a few more WIP pics:

I like the overall colours and the scaly bits painting into the really area really look cool....

I have to agree with everyone on the pinning front after seeing several of these buggers simply falling apart while on display let alone hen being used..

big nail through the foot....The head and hands combined are just too heavy to be held by the ankle joint.......

nice work ad icky looking base always a good thing....

@DR in my innocence I picture you pinning a sunday roast that\'s the only joint I can think of....

Hi Again Y\'all!

@Demonherald: Thanks :D

Like I said, I worked on some metals today, sadly I failed at taking any decent pics.. anyway here\'s the best I could do:

*Crappy pics removed*

I\'m quite happy with my progress on metals, andthis is what I wish you could see on these crappy pics.. anyway, I need proper lighting...

At this rate this character should be done in no time;)

More soon...

Edit: I gave it another try, maybe this one is better:

Almost done!

Probably the last wip of this project, I\'m just about done with this guy, only a few props, the cape and the face are left.

I had to use a fill flash so you could see something, I do hope I will find a way to shoot him for the final montage:(

This is looking quite good, altough i think some of the gold could do whit a little more shading/washes ... But thats justt my unprofessional opinion :)

Product, tks
I agreefor the washes, some parts lack depth a bit...
I had a hard time giving it depth while keeping the polished gold effect.

Green one wash the gold with purple ink a little chaos black and about 8 parts clean water...the colour should be a deep blacky purple tone and run clear when the brush passes trough it .. A couple of coats of this wash and then a rehiglight with gold then gold and mithril and you\'ll see a big difference...
