GreenOne's WIP - Back in green(skin)

GreenOne

I paint my thumb.
Hi Y'all, been a while...
My how time flies... thought I was just putting my brush down to take a short break from a frustrating project... When I woke up I was in a different place, with a different job, same GF though, which is a good thing. My workplace was all boxed up, even the forums have changed dramatically during my slumber, not sure I like it but I'll get used to it; at least most of my favorite users are still around still steadily painting just where I failed.
I turned 27 in the meantime and didn't do anything worthy of all that time.
Silly me.
Got my desk dusted off, put my wares in order and by the time finished watching 1% of the minis I have missed and lurked a good deal to get the mood going, I was up and painting again, and like everytime I did, wondered why the hell I ever stopped.
Call me Green the unsteady.

Enough about me.. on with the pics, all unsatisfying that they may be.

This is a very generic orc, provided by JonhboyJJB in a former mini exchange, not sure exactly what 'class' or edition it is (If someone know, please tell me) but I quite like it, very expressive critters these orcs :)
No particular objective on this one, except get it done and enjoy the process, a little quicky to get the ball rolling.

Not too keen on the red backdrop but it seems to render the colors a bit closer to reality. Even so there's many nuances gone missing, browns and purpleish tones.. but you get the main Idea... skin is mostly shaded, still nothing on the face; very early pics, but you know me, can't wait to share. I'll try and get some better pics later in the process.

I believe that's GW's more rescent fantasy range. Possibly an Arrer boy with some choppa arms on it?

I haven't bought any fantasy orks in a while, but are his torso and legs one piece?

Good to have you back amigo! That is defo one of the 6th edition boxed set Orcs from Warhammer.

I can see lots of purple along the arms, so the pics aren't taking everything away! Glad you're back aboard, and hopefully all the change in your life was good stuff!

Thanks Scott, It is good to be back :D
And yeah for once, all that change was under control, and for the best.

Hard to say, it was already assembled when I got it, I repositioned the head but haven't tried removing the legs.

True the purple got through but not the way it looks irl; it's all in the same 'gradient' whereas I painted darker green-brown-purple-blue/black at different places, I will do glazes after the highlights to bring this up a bit though... Maybe the camera will understand it better when I get some more colors on the rest of the mini.

The only thing that would have been glued in this mini would be the head. Scott's right about it being a 6th edition Orc from Warhammer Fantasy. They are also found in the Warhammer Fantasy Starter set (the one that comes with Orcs and Empire), and are (besides the heads) one solid piece.

I saw your nickname this morning in a comment left on a miniature and I wondered where you went. Welcome back ^-^ and you should show us some more progress than that, you had a lot of time painting something more up ;)

@Freak: Sir, yes sir! :D

@Aluna: I wish I could, in that time I could have painted a couple armies... but instead I wasted my time with video games, poker and other stuff.
It's like a tide, it roll in and I get painting more and more intensely, then it rolls out and I wake up one day not feeling like it anymore, until next time it comes around. But I know now that minis will remain a part of my life, at least periodically. It is when the tide reach its top that I feel the happiest and best about me.

A small update, did the basic highlighs on the skin, I plan on glazing to enhance the effects and maybe do further highlighting later on...
Pics are also getting better:

Thank you Joren, and welcome^^

Don't get much time for painting, so progress is slow.... scratch that... I AM slow, hehe :D But there is some progress anyway. Skin is mostly done, except some final touches that'll wait till the rest is painted. I manage to do the facial features as well, the left eye looks a bit f*cked up atm but I think I know how to fix that.

Skinwork is inspired by the fancy new orks floating about, namely Skelettes Ork wip, albeit on a very amateur level, with my own personnal style (Messiness) added...
I'm most happy with the mouth (Seems trivial but I've been looking forward those nice teeth.) and right eye. I'll have to redo the nails/claws as well but this can wait too.

Got two days off, hopefully I can make some serious advance for the next post.
Thanks for watching.

Allright, a week later... I really need to get my shite together so I can begin painting more efficiently.
Erm, did all the clothing, metal is roughly basecoated.
More or less happy so far, but I am experiencing little interesting thing that I can use on a more serious project.

Anyway lemme know what you think, thanks for watching.

This guy's done, save for the base of course.
I think I can make a little room for him in my heart... Not my finest job, not the greatest sculpt, but it now smells like varnish so hurray for that :D
I succeeded at a couple of personal tasks on him. While they're lost to your eyes under the many imperfections, I feel I added a couple tricks to my arsenal, to use on future project. Bloody weapon was kinda experimental this way, while not a totally realistic, much better than my previous attempts I think.
I gotta find some time for basework in my busy schedule, and expect him to be in submission sometime soon.
Thanks for watching.

nice one there, but the pics seems a bit dim?
also, im not sure about the bright blue lips, i think you have to smooth them out against the green to make him less "girly" ;)

otherwise, good stuff.

Hey thanks Skelly and proph.

Agree the pics are a bit washed out, I'll need a bit darker backdrop and to watch the S setting.
Dunno why I painted those lips blue, it kind of whispered it to me 'paint me blue, ooooo' I guess he's trying to tell us something the other boys would not accept, lol
I might retouch that bit now that you mention it.

Edit: Who the f*** is Tim Curry anyway ?
