Greenstuff Assembly

I thought I had read somewhere that you could use greenstuff instead of glue to assemble minis. Is this accurate? Are there any advantages? Disadvantages?

GS is an epoxy putty, it will stick, but not like true epoxy nor with the tensile strength of zap-a-gap.

Advantages, you don\'t have to glue the joint.

Disadvantages, the joint will probably fail.

I wouldn\'t rely on GS to hold a joint together for long, basically what Airhead said. However, if you glue a joint, then fill in the gaps around with GS you will have a stronger hold than either on their own, and it will look better not having a gap!.

The best join is one that uses a pinning rod as thick as the pieces can take, epoxy glue (not epoxy putty), and a small \"ring\" or \"donut\" of green stuff surrounding the epoxy glue.

If both pieces are plastic, replace \"epoxy glue\" with \"plastic glue.\"

The pinning is key. I just had a risky join fail on me yesterday (done the day before); it was a fairly heavy metal piece epoxy glued to a plastic piece. There was a pin, but the fault was that it was too small. A thicker pin is always better (more surface area for the glues to work on, more friction/contact area for the pin to be pulled out).

Green stuff by itself won\'t work except for the smallest of pieces. Though you could always green stuff it in place, wait for it to dry, then break it apart and re-glue it -- the break should be a tight fit.

Without a pin though... I\'m crazy about the pinning. Hell, I pin plastic skeletons together. And they deserve it, too, the little rat bastards.

I must be very lucky with glue, because I\'ve never pinned anything... even ones that should\'ve been, like this guy, who\'s still one piece despite being transported a few times.

Yes, I agree. One good bump and I could see wings becoming detatched. If this piece was going to be actually used in-game, I wouldn\'t dream of it being simply glued. Pins would be a must, at least 2 in those wings.
