GreenStuff help~!

I use a stainless steel tool that has a very smooth surface to \'iron-out\' the bumps, using a little saliva, cooking oil or vaseline as a lubricant.

Greenstuff is best smoothed after it has been modelled into shape and then left to stiffen a little, how long you leave it depends on the ambient temperature.

Another tip is to bulk-up the detail first (use a firmer and cheaper putty for this), leave to set completely and then add a layer of green detail on top.

At the final stages of a really smooth surface I use paint brushes ( lubricated ) an electric toothbrush ( no, not the same one I use for my dental hygine...although I did once brush my teeth with my dremel...my gums bled for 2 weeks...) and ,in rare cases ,1200 grade emery.

Ummmmm....I think that covers it....:)

...oh and read my post in the \'miniature boob job\' thread for blending gs.

ive played with super sculpty a bit and even sculpted a hella ugly terminator for fun with it and i found dipping pinky in water (just a little) and hard points or areas that had sat and hardened too much soften right up.

Supposedly, the pros (like GW and Dragonrune sculptors) like to use a wet brush but another part is cutting out the thing middle where te yellow and blue strips meet, at that\'s already cured GS. I don\'t usually do either, but I will cut out the middle for better details. I also use water on my sculpting tools. You could also cut the GS with a sharp knife, but be careful not to cut too deep. Hope this helps!

I think I\'ve heard some people use wetted cue-tips, but I may be thinking of something else entirely. :)

I really don\'t think that\'s a good idea, you would get loads of tiny fibres sticking to the green.

kay, how \'bout this. Use a rounded spatula or a ball burnisher. Ball burnishers are just tools with a small metal ball on the end, so you may even be able to make your own with a BB. Or, you may even be able to use the ball of a pin. For smoothing after it\'s dry, you can use 2000+grit sandpaper

You won\'t believe this...

You\'ll never believe this ... lol Astroglide. Then burnish with a dental tool. Strange as it may sound, I\'ve been using a \"personal lubricant\" when working with the GW blue/white (another product from the same people that make GS).

Thicker than water, but won\'t mess up paint adhesion like vaseline or oil. I\'ve heard oldtimers used spit; this has the same consistency, but you don\'t have to get putty in your mouth to use it. A few drops on a jar lid or piece of foil, and you are good to go.

Also works great to keep the stuff from sticking to your fingers when you knead it the first time and start shaping it. Ditto for tools.

A little dab will do ya, so you\'ve got plenty left for (ahem) other uses.

BTW: definately cut the \"cured bit\" out of the middle. Haven\'t had the chance to buy some yet, but saw GS advertised as two separate sticks - no stiff stuff in the middle like with the tape.:moon:

Not a gooroos nor a Guru :) ... but

1) Lubricate your tool. Use , water, spit, petroleum jelly.

2) Partice: I\'ve only seen vet. sculptors with lots of experince produce smooth sculpts.

Note the dragon rune guy uses a brush with the softer putty he calls \"gray stuff\" I use to use a brush for magic sculpt (also gray) but now I use a clay shaper.

I have tried to resist this for what seems like ages.

Either 1. The people on this forum, in the guise of good taste, choose not to make a crude, immature reply.

Or 2. Damn! I didn\'t see that till just now!!

What, your beloved a dental assistant or something? Dental tools really are good - got one with a big knife-like thing on one end and a kind of flattened hook on the other. The blade and the back side of the hook both make great burnishers, though for different applications.

BTW, Cerridwyn....now there\'s a Welsh name isn\'t it!.;)
Welsh, Celtic, Gaelic, take your pick. Cerridwyn is the Lady of the Caldron, a Goddess of knowledge in Celtic mythos.

Actually, my beloved\'s dad was a dentist lol(it was funnny \'cos we used the same tools all day!) he retired recently and gave all his tools to me (Thanks Tony!:)). You can appreciate what that meant to me as a figure sculptor if you know how much this stuff costs!

Actually, I don\'t know how much it costs. If you got things like dentists drills and such, I\'m betting those are pretty pricey.

Like I said, I\'ve gotten some tools at the fleamarket really cheap. I\'m thinking of buying a couple of sets and offering them on Ebay just to see if there is any demand. If that works out well, I\'ll try selling some other stuff.
