greenstuff work.

Sorry if this has been covered before but I am new to the site and haven\'t had chance to look through everything.

My questions are with green stuff..2 things .
1 ..How can I get a really smooth finish when doing greenstuff over a smooth surface .I seem to get it right a few times but it often curls up at the edges and a I like using inks with painting it can be annoying as it doesn\'t always show until that point..
2.. When sculpting parts seperately with greenstuff on a greenstuff sculpt is there anything other than superglue to attach with as repositioning if slightly out seems to really damage the Grenstuff.?
thanks in advance and any useful links will be cool.

I don\'t have anything useful to say about your second question, since I\'ve never done this myself.

Concerning your first question, though, I would recommend using a colour shaper (http://www.colourshaper.com/). They come in various shapes and are excellent for smoothing out green stuff and other types of putty.

Im not sure if Im going to help you or not..

You can use a file and sand down edges to smooth them out. If I get rough areas thats usually what I do.
Also I read everywhere to use water to keep it from sticking etc.. well all puns aside I use hand lotion(small amount) to coat my sculpting tool and I use a drop or two mixed in with the putty (depending on the amount of Gstuff). that seems to get me a really pliable putty. It seems to stretch easier but it can also make it hard to stick to the model or whatever your stiking it to, remember that if you try it. Also remember you can pin stuff together with your pin vise and wire that may give you a good guideline before you use any glue.

And about the super glue. I use that insta cure crap you can get at hobby shops. if i let the greenstuff harden (which i usually don\'t) before I attach it to the model, and I use too much glue or need to reposition it Ill use the file and file it down. then try to glue again.

There is so much trial and error that I dont even know if this info will help. But good luck.

Why were you in the women\'s nail section?

I went to the womens nail section recently, BY MY SELF:eek: There are these finger nail files that have 4-6 different grit\'s of paper on them and (yes, I tried this) they can get your fingernail to a mirror finish. Why, pray tell, am I confessing this? I thought that if it can get a fingernail to a mirror finish then mabey it can do the same for a scratch in a CD. It did fairly well............FYI

Practice. Lubricate. Vaseline will give you a smoother finish than water alone. You want only a thin film on your tool. It can be cleaned off the putty with rubbing alcohol. Be patient. Work the area over until it\'s smooth. The color shapers will help. You can also cut ot scrape the cured putty if needed to get a better finish.

You can use the green stuff itslef as an adhesive or evening pin the parts using the gs to secure the pieces.
