Grey Knight Paladins

I'm working on a Grey Knight Paladin squad from the new series. They were fun to put together and I really like the models. I just finished highlighting the armor at this point- I'll be going back to clean up and add in some darker shadows where needed later. I apologize if the white background makes it hard to see- I just got in a 12" light cube and I've been playing around with the different background and my camera settings.

I airbrushed on Vallejo Air Metallics. Primed black, basecoat of black metallic, then gun metal, steel, chrome, then I gave everything a heavy wash of Babab Black. Once that dried I airbrushed a thinned mix of Chrome and finished the highlights and edging with Silver mixed with Metallic Medium.

What do you guys think?

oh i dig it! nice contrast here. i do think it would look more interresting glazed with some different colour/s, some shades of blue for example. but that all depends on how youre planning to paint the non-metal parts of course.

Like the contrast as well! How easy are Vallejo Air metallics to airbrush? What nozzle size and pressure did you use?

The Air Metallics are pretty easy to work with- I have a cheap Aztek airbrush and the only problem I ran into was my nozzle getting clogged a few times, but I think that's a problem with the nozzle more than the paints.

They're also great to just paint on- they're already about as thin as I need them and the metallic particles are smaller than standard metallics, which gives them a smoother finish and nicer sheen.

when i use the air metalic paints in my airbrush i use a little future floor wax to help with the flow and it GREATLY reduces clogged tips.

Unfortunately Future has been discontinued in France for a coupel of years now, I yet have to find a suitable replacement. In the meanwhile I'm using gloss varnish as a substitute. Looking forward to see the paintjob evolve!
