Grey Knight Terminator

After a long absence involving a 2000km motorcycle trip and moving to another country, I got back to painting. Seeing how many of my models had remain undercoated for years I felt a bit guilty and decided to paint some of them. First was a BFG Dauntless Light Cruiser which was just what I needed to get back to painting; a fun and easy miniature. After I realized I still remember how to use a brush I decided to go a bit further and had a shot at a GK Terminator that had been left undercoated for around 4 years. A very enjoyable mini indeed. I did some blending on the scrolls and had my first go at OSL around the eyes. At the moment it is almost ready except for the power sword. I am thinking of doing a glowing green power sword so if anyone has any ideas or a good tutorial I\'m all ears... ;)

This is quite good but the metallics are not the best, maybe you should also add some freehands and writings cause some areas look a bit empty.

I disagree about the metallics- I think they look very good. You do need to push more contrast on the red shield, though, and it does look very plain. It needs some freehand for a sigil, or a good decal (using setting and solvent solutions, of course). The glow effect on the eyes is a little too understanded- you need to make the bright part of the eyes even brighter- move the shade more toward pure white.

The metallics on the gun are a little too celan- they need some darkening around the ends to make it look like the weapon has been fired in combat.

How are you going to handle the book and purity seals- freehand or decals?

Thanks for the coments everybody. :D The scrolls and the book will have some scriblings and text added after I finish the rest of the model and the shield will be decorated with some symbol, probably some kind of decal as my freehand is... bad. As for the metalics the armour has been a test for drybrushing and washes and I kind of like the granite-like effect it produces. The rest of the metalics have been painted with a more \"traditional\" aproach, using layered highlights and washes. They didn\'t turn out very good in the pics I posted so I\'m including some better pics of them. I took these at previous stages of painting but the metalics have stayed the same. Pics here:

If you know of any good tutorial for painting heat discolouration on metalics please post a link. I am looking for the purple-ish kind of discolouration. I thought about blackening but i didn\'t like the idea too much. Grey knights are suposed to clean their weapons regularly. However some heat discolouration near the flamer muzzle would be very... tasty. lol Also, do you have any ideas or recipes for painting a glowing green power sword? ???

I tried heat discoloration once in the past, and it turned out decently. I took some watered down red ink and drybrushed it on and around the barrel. Then I used some watered down purple ink and drybrushed the ends of the barrell an a veyr little bit on the side, making certain there was some transition between the two colors.

I\'d do a test piece with this, though, to make sure it\'s the look you want.

Do you happen to have any pics of that mini? I\'d realy like to see the effect.

I was thinking of using successive layers of washes for the discolouration but I\'m not sure if it would darken the metal too much and how the overal effect would be. I think it will be better to finish the mini first so I can see how heat discolouration will tie with the rest of the mini.

Here are some examples of the kind of heat discolouration I\'m talking about:

Wow, brother captain, that\'s a really great job you did on the GK termie. They\'re my favorite sculpt in 40k. You mind if I took your color scheme as an inspiration for my own GK termie squad? :D

In fact i would be honoured if you use my scheme in your GK squad. :D

GK is finished now. Any ideas about final alterations before I varnish him?
