Grey Knights Strike Squad

Hi Folks,

Here's my latest squad - a Grey Knights Strike Squad. I really like the new style frames that GW produce which include a variety of troop types from one box.

I've tried to go with a slight aged metallic look for the armour and keep the darker style on my Nemisis weapons. I hope that you like them. Please feel free to comment how I could improve on these.

Hey, I like them, bet that they look really nice on a gaming tabel. If there is something that I might have worked more with it is the metalic part, properbly used some inks with lots of water and gone over and made the shadows. Perhaps blue and purple inks with some brown ink mixed in, in some places. just to make the metal less flat. I believe there is a great tutorial http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1814-ujahu-part-ii-painting-the-figure (dont know if they uses inks there but that technique with usage of inks work really well :) also massivevoodoo has a tutorial on metallics adn on e on glazing somewhere on there site... http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2009/10/tutorial-overview.html#painting

Thanks very much for the critique. Metallics are harder than I thought! I'll have a look at that tutorial. Thanks again!

I'd suggest painting the flexible joints black rather than leaving them all metal, breaks up the shape of the marines.
f you are finding painting with metals difficult why not try a different paint. Vallejo Airbush metals are far smoother to work with.
Despite the name "Airbrush" they are just as easy to work with a brush and give a much smoother finish.

Dragonsreach thanks for the comments. I'll give the change to the joints on my next set. In terms of the Vallejo colours - are they acrylic like the GW ones?

Yes only 200% better in quality and value for money.

x3, just started using the stuff but its brilliant.
As for shading, I dont use inks as they tend to have some shine and the shadow ares on metallics should not be shiny so I just thin down regular paints to glazes and use them to shade. Cheaper that way too. :)

-1, although my vallejo paint pots are growing rapidly i still love my gw colours the most! ;P
oh and jetfire, be sure to buy vallejos AIR metals, because vallejo model colour metals suck big time!
