Grey Knights

Hi.

I\'m thinking about starting a grey knights army. After looking at dozens of grey knights pics here at cmon, I have found a passion for them.

I don\'t know much about the GK, so can anyone tell me something about them, and some painting tips would\'nt hurt either.

well...

Most powerful of all space marine groups...

THey are the space marines used by the daemonhunter inquistors. They are only called upon for major chaos invasions; fighting on daemonworlds or against demons that would rape armies of other races/space marines (ie. an\'grath the unbound comes to mind, angron, etc).

THey use ancient power army, very artistic with runes,etc hence they look very different than other space marines. THey are weaker at heavy weapons as they can\'t take assault cannons, etc...only land raider, orbital strike (which is too random), and dreadnought can take lascannon\'s so heavy tank armies can be a problem. Swarms also bad since GK cost so many pts, they are always outnumbered... (even less troops than deathwing normally).

Their grandmaster can take out even emporer\'s champion and i\'ve seen them take out greater demons, and carnifexes in 1 shot due to their force weapon rules.

as space marines are created by genetic manipulation based on the genetics of the primarchs (blood angels = sanguinius , for example)...the grey knights\' gene seed is from the emporer himself; thus making them completely fearless (never take pinning tests, run away, etc) and immune to minor psionic powers with chances to stop all.

The anceint emporer honour guard, the Custodes, basically would be grey knights...

IN close combat, none of space marines can take on GKs and GKs are also good at shooting.

THey are the ultimate heroes of the IMperium...

Well, a Pure Grey Knights force is very hard to play. You wont have the numbers everything else does, so your probably going to have a hard time dealing with any well-balanced army. On the other hand they are rediculously good against \'nids due to all the grey knights have stormbolters which move and shoot 24\". You can pretty much keep moving away from the gaunts and stealers and just fire into them. Hit on a 3 wound on a 3 No save. and 20 shots per full squad.

be carefull with buying any models carrying incinerators.

they are not that good a weapon.

use landraiders as a delivery system for your terminators.
a crusader gives your army it\'s anti vehicle fire power as well.

as for paintong tips.

paint the metal as standard and then use carefully placed blue glazes.

well the grey knights terminators are soo bloody hard, all grey knights marines come with power weapons as standard which basically means that you don\'t fight against grey knights in close combat!, they are just killing machines and they look amazing to boot!

as for painting tips i\'d suggest a custom colour scheme using the same style as the codex/standard but with inverted colours like black armour with grey/white highlites, kinda takes away from the grey part of the grey knights but would look damn cool!

We have a little GK trick in my club, its called The Psycannon Hell...

It bassically that you buy as many 5 Knight units as possible, and equip all of them with Psycannons!

Make sure you have a dreadnought for anti-vehicle power, (Lascannon+ missile launcher..) and some terminators for more psycannon death (Brother captains can have one..) and H-T-H Combat.

(And then theres that mean eversor-assault-on-turn-1-blow-up-when-death-assassin with his allied death-cults! DAMN i hate him!)

Well, actually i beat it yesterday.
The trick was to assault it with a Chaplain, and 2 squads of assault marines with furius charge (Special trait..)
Make sure to have veteran Sergeants with Power weapons!

But then again, i guess, it would work against any save 3+ armyt..

\"psycannon hell\" isnt a great army loadout (im a DH player, see my gallery for pics), in fact, id say its bad, way to points heavy for a five man marine squad with a power weapon he should never use. the best advice i can give is gk in power armor - they are really the only thing in the army that isnt broken in some way. gkt and assassins are cool too (best models ever!) but they cost a lot of bolts and. troops are the key here, maxed out squads. i also advise that you take a few storm trooper squads with melta weapons in rhinos - give one a tp homer. this lets you deploy your gk as fast attack and gives you the option of dsing them. i suggest librarium online for more in depth info, or pm me, ive played the daemonhunters (all types) for several years now, and id be glad to help with a trickey army (strat rating = 3!).
