gritty bits in vallejo paint

Does anyone else get annoyed by the little gritty bits in some vallejo colours?
Is there a cure for this????

i\'ve seen that on occasion - usually it starts on my pallette though where I , too late, resurrected a color that was more dry than useable.

In the bottle itself I haven\'t noticed so much - I just shake the f*** out of it, thin it and watch my brush tip carefully so as not to transfer any to the mini itself . . .

Just thinking that...

If that was GW paints they\'d just call it \'textured\' and charge you extra:D

Seriously, if you can eliminate external contamination, insufficient shaking or Flashman\'s explanation, you may have a faulty batch?

ps. Does anybody know if mechanical shakers are easily available? When I was able to paint regularly, I developed a right arm like Popeye whilst my left remained reminiscent of Olive Oyle\'s. People used to jump to conclusions....:D

You could try a vibrating device, I have heard those are easily available... :D

I\'ve tried shaking the hell out of it, but to no avail, there are still little bits like grains of sand, even from new bottles, but only with certain colours. I guess it\'s probably a manufacturing fault. I might try mixing in a little airbrush thinners to see if that helps.

Never noticed Vallejo to be gritty to be honest. The Game Color is as smooth as something very smooth. Apart from the metallics it doesn\'t appear to need thinning any more either (unless it\'s been on the pallette for a few minuites that is).

Not quite sure why everyone makes such a big thing about having to shake the damn bottles either. All paint needs a quick shake or stir before using it. Even though Vallejo does seperate quite a lot when it\'s left unused for a little while, it doesn\'t require a great deal of effort to just give it a quick shake.

Why spend money (and faff about with) a mechanical shaker? Just learn to use both hands for all your shaking requirements. I understand it feels like someone else is doing all the work if you use your other hand... erm... too much information there I think... err... heard about it on TV! Bye!

(makes excuses and promptly leaves).

Take it back to your supplier and say do you want to paint with this! If they are smartasses just put up a sign saying faulty batch paint sellers here -->.

Mechanical Paint shaker

Asked and answered:

http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp?MerchantID=RET01229&Action=Catalog&Type=Product&ID=27162

If that link won\'t work for you, just go to www.micromark.com and put \"paint shaker\" into the keyword search.

I have had one for about 6 months now and I don\'t know how I got along without it. I use a lot of different paint colors on my models, and shaking as many as 8 different paint bottles just to get the blend effect I am after gets rather tiresome. Also I paint in spurts meaning I\'ll sit for 2 hours then go off to do something else. The next day I\'ll start again. At the table, its no problem to quickly shake up a bottle you\'ve already been using, but trying to adequately mix up a color you haven\'t used in a week or so can really burn out the arms quick. Maybe I\'m just weak/lazy.

Anyhow, the shaker was worth the cash for me. Get the plug-in one, not the battery one, the batteries die too quickly and it uses 4 D cells which ain\'t that cheap to replace often.

Also storing vallejos like wine bottles helps quite a bit (on their side, or slightly elevated). Certain Vallejo colors that have been sitting upright for a month or more, unused, can be a pain to mix up adequately.

Hope that helps.

Yuppers... I get that too, usually if I don\'t shake it too well. (You really need to shake the hell out of the buggers)

If it still exists, I will add a drop or two of water on my pallet and mix it up and it goes away no problem.

I have found that, if you go the the hobby store, buy a bag of glass or stone beads usually meant for making jewelry. Then when you buy a new bottle, just open it up and drop a bead in it. The colors mix alot smoother and alot faster.

Ohh and I heard if you shake it too much, you\'ll go blind! :innocent:
