Gruesome topic

Hello all,

Do any of you painters out there have any suggestions for painting blood spatters? You know, like the kind that would occur if an ugly two-headed ettin had smashed a human monk into little wet puddles of monk?

I actually don\'t want it to be too gross, just a little for humor\'s sake--the ettin (from Reaper) is going to get pulled out in our next game. You see, in our last game, he and his friends pretty much pummelled our characters silly. So I thought it would be funny to see some of our blood on his weapons. lol

Any suggestions or have any of you seen anything like this on other minis?

I \'d say you mix some red and brown ink, dilute it and then just paint the splaters.

How would you do the splatters, French? Get a stiff brush and flick the loaded bristles? Wouldn\'t that kind of overdo it? (hey, there\'s a bit of Joe behind his left ear...) lol

For some reason that reminded me of \"The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen\" with Tom Sayer telling Mina Harker: \'You\'ve missed a bit!\', after she\'d just ripped some bad guy\'s throat into mincemeat. Whereupon she wipes the area with her finger and then licks the last drops of blood off. :|~

Just in case anyone else is interested, I posted this question on the Reaper boards and got a pretty good answer:

Dip an old toothbrush in the red paint, make sure it is not too loaded, then run your finger along the bristles so that you get a splatter effect.

Sounds like it might work...

well, I use a mix of Scab Red, Red Ink and a bit of chestnut ink, mixed with acrylic gel medium. I paint on the splatters, since on that scale you wouldn\'t be able to make out too much splattery effet anyway, so I go for the overall effect.

It\'s easy to overdo with a brush/toothbrush. Remeber It\'s the reapeated hits and backswings that throw all the splatters around therefore toothbrush=Psycho. Paint on splatter idea works for me, mind you, you did say Ettin.

no I was actuallu sugesting to paint the splaters on. Like tammy said you won;t get a real effect by just flicking a toothbrush at it, that plus the fact that he might end up looking like he just took a blood shower.

I\'ve used the toothbrush method with very nice results.
Mad Doc Grotsnik here was done using this method. I masked off everything but the apron using a plain sheet of paper with a rectangular hole cut in it. I then used red ink and an old toothbrush and flicked it on. Be careful not to overdo it otherwise you lose the effect.

Talk about completely destroying a wonderful story...a great comic, crappy movie.

Actually I didn\'t mind the movie as I took it to be a complete and utter piece of fun, midly sending itself up something rotten. Bit like Galaxy Quest in a way.
