i think GW have done a good idea as when you buy the game, theres then no subscription fees where as wow does. But unlike wow WAR needs a better computer to run it, where as Wow was on purposely basic as it meat more people could play it.

I think the model is ok, shame it is only released in the collectors edition.

I doubt i will get it, i dont play wow and dont like mmorpg, its (only in my opinion) computer game crack. My best friend plays wow and dedicates a lot to it. But everyone has there own tastes so do your own. Though WAR did entice me as it looks quite good, and seems alright when i played it at GD, shame the collectors price is a lot, might get an american one imported lol

Where/when exactly did they say there\'d be no subscription fees?

I found this out a while ago, that they were charging more for the game to make up for it not having a subscription fee, also that i think the normal version comes with a map (YAY) may have been gamesday when i was speaking to the developers. But i distinctly remember this being said.

Don\'t worry, aftermarket sites like eBay will be flodded with them in no time..

Shame though because on ebay it\'ll be an absolute rip off, luckily i have a plan, my best mate will be getting it as he loves his 2nd job game crack, excuse me i mean mmorpg\'s so i will get the model off him as i got hold off his favourite character Malus Darkblade on foot for him.

Do agree with DR that the model is hardly wow factor but i guess the eavy metal team are told to paint them out to a good standard and not a too the best of their abilities standard

High Price? This is a COLLECTORS edtion(which by the way so far looks faaaar more impressive than WOW collectors ed). Have you ever seen the price of the wow collectors edition?

And yes it very well can compete with wow. If one is following the news in the computer gaming industry than it is a known fact that so far this game is more impressive than wow from the gameplay side(though honestly i doubt it will overthrow it. Wow is allready too deeply dug in)

As for the model: a lot of potential. The pose is static but it actually makes it looks quite manacing standing like that i believe. Besides nobody said that every single model in the collection have to be screaming, scything his sword through the air an mounted on a rearing steed.

The business model for the game is not one where they can not have a subscription fee. They are not using in game advertising and not using micro-transactions (like the asian based games where you pay for an item off the website). The overhead for creating the game, running the game and continuing development of new content is not one where they afford to not charge.

While EA Mythic is making the game they do have stock holders to answer to.

Games like Guild Wars don\'t have subscription fees, but they do have lovely stuff like $10 to add a character slot to your account, and $10 to unlock every skill for PVP-only characters and stuff like that.

Guild Wars also hit 5 million users recently, proving that you can in fact take a bite out of WoW\'s market share and get away with it.

They decided against the subscription fee as the game would cost more when it came on sale. So in essence they can avoid subscription. Another reason is because some people dislike the paying subscription fee, reasons why as jericho said Guild wars is popular. These games dont need subscription fees as selling a game makes a substantial amount of profit. Also with the size of EA they can afford not too have the subscription fee.WoW is all about having the players and getting as much money out of them as they can.imho

I also agree with what\'s been said that the collectors edition of WO:WAR is a good collectors edition, the WoW 1 was a disappointment in you got nothing remotely good. In this you get the model (based on two characters from the game) you get a 224page artbook (how much wud GW charge for this normally?) and you get a graphic novel.

I dont think it will knock off wow, but i think it will be one those sly ones like guild wars that creeps up and has its own fan base.

I don\'t really understand the point of a collector\'s edition on a video game. Can someone enlighten me as to why someone would need this? It seems to me in order to \"collect\" video games (which would seem a bit of an odd thing to collect in the first place, at least by my reckoning) you\'d have to maintain them unopened and in mint condition which would kinda defeat the purpose of buying the game in the first place, no?

Just curious about it all.

From a player perspective, you get some extra heads for your avatar customization. So you can look a little different from the rest of the population. Considering that they said they are only offering 60K of these thats pretty good.

12 Extra quests for people that own it.

An exclusive item based on where you pre-ordered it from.

A tent so you can rest out of battle wherever you want.

Open Beta invite.

And a headstart on the server before it goes live to the rest of the public.

I think thats all of it. I guess I could have just given the link.

From a painters perspective the mini is pretty cool and looks to be about in the $30 range for GW. again with only 60K being offered it will be pretty collectible at some point.

Art books of that size usually run about $40 and the graphic novel would probably run about $20.

I could say that I am buying all the extras and getting the game for free.

For the very same reason people buy special edition dvd,s or books.

Also dont forget that in addition to all the cool stuff you get in the box the CE of warhammer Online provides some quite serious and interesting bonuses in-game that affect gameplay(and they are much better and useable than the pretty patchetic ones you get with the WOW CE).
You get even more of them if you pre-order the game

I stand corrected on the subscription, still that is just in the US, not saying it wont be the same over here (most likely will be one from that POV) shame though cos its not really needed (free always entices)

The collectors editions have many perks in the game and the extra things you get that are physical, from everything you get it seems worth the extra money.

Piracy is also a huge reason why a lot of online games have subscription fees. It guarantees income for the developer. Its also where the micro transaction business came from.

Once a key code algorithm gets cracked its pretty easy for anyone to download it and play a pc game.

For Example.

Recently Iron Lore the developer of Titans Quest was closed. There was a crack up for the game before it was on the shelves and they estimated that 90% of the people playing online were playing with pirated copies. Because the studio wasn\'t making money it was closed. It really sucks.

In relation to Guild Wars, they use micro transactions to supplement income and the amount of content that they have in comparison is very low. They dont really offer free content patches the way WoW does and hopefully War will. All of their content costs money.

I guess it has that certainty but on WoW people i know play for free despite their being a subscription. One friend just stopped paying and their account is fine, another person plays on a free server. I guess the subscription keeps it ticking over, but i would think with online games they would be able to find who is using what code (and when they see the multiples of hacked ones then they could freeze accounts)

still look forward to WAR coming out, seemed reasonable when played it at GD
