GS help?

First off let me say this one of the best forum I have ever run across! As you can tell this is also my first post, but I been here since late June. To be honest this site is 1 of the 2 factors that got my into tabletop minis.
My question is this, Right now I\'m working on a Orc warboss riding a boar from GW conversion. I\'m tring to extend the chainmail so it could hang lower to the ground, but each time I speard it over the part thats on the model, it just easliy comes off. I had a little bit of trouble on the bak end of the boar with leather I was adding to it. But I figured it out. I was wondering if water gets behind the GS while I\'m working on it, would it come off easily? Also should I work the GS in this manner: add a little bit, wait a few minutes to dry (may be 5 mins), spread it out to blend it with the other part on the model, wait a few mintues again, then add the last part of GS for the details? I know thats alot of questions but It was really bugging me out! Thanks for looking, and I hope someone can help me out!

Well, I\'ve not sculpted much so you may want to wait for someone more experienced. Maybe you could try rolling out some GS roughly the correct size and add the lot to the model in one go. Wait for half an hour before adding the detailing. There may be an article that could help you in the articles section, or you could use the search function in these forums.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks Roger for the welcoming! I read the cmon pdf book and it didn\'t shine any light on the subject, but I just checked the artcles section and found tons of info thanks man you helped me alot!

The pro sculptors I\'ve watched use a lot less water for lubrication than you\'d imagine. Definitely if you\'ve used a lot of water on your hands to mix it it\'ll help if you let it sit a few minutes before trying to stick it on something. Also you can have water on the side you\'re holding but keep the part you\'re trying to stick on to something fairly dry. GS is very sticky, particularly when it\'s just mixed, so if you\'re having trouble sticking it to something sounds like over-lubrication is a good problem to look for.

It\'s also useful to note that it has a different consistency at different stages of its working life. It\'s pretty soft just after mixing so will take marks (including fingerprints) and deform really easily. For some things the best technique can be to get the basic shape where you want it then let it cure for 30-45 minutes and come in and do the detail work.

There are links to some nice sculpting tutorials on this thread you might want to check out.
