GTA4

Logan, you make very good points.

Whilst I think GTA is a real masterpiece of gaming design and it\'s great fun to play, I\'m increasingly coming round to your point of view. The realism of these things has to alter the way we view them ultimately.

Even in something cartoony like Saints Row, the violence is very real - the way the unconscious bodies and corpses move when you kick them is certainly eye opening.

The original GTA caused a furore, and it was only a top-down cartoon really. Things have progressed at an awesome pace, and I don\'t think there\'s enough research being done into the effects of violent imagery - TV, movies, games, porn etc on kids.

Schools in the UK are becoming increasingly violent places with weapons often involved. As a (sometime) teacher I\'d like to know what is causing this! As a rule, kids are better off than they were in my father\'s or grandfather\'s day. They live in better conditions, have more things to do and play with and certainly have easy access to stuff that previous generations didn\'t.

Nothing to do with scare-mongering or being pro/anti. I\'d just like a few questions answered and to see society take a little more responsibility for it\'s actions.

Comments like the one about giving pregnant women a kicking do the game no favours at all if you ask me!

I agree it\'s a masterpiece of gaming and I love games where you can immerse yourself in real world environments. It\'s a bit of a double-edged sword for me as it\'s the realism of the genre that whilst being lauded is what turns me off. Like you say, the way the bodies fall and the do anything to anyone aspect.
Yes I know most people can detach it from reality and it doesn\'t mean they go out looking for the nearest shopkeeper to beat up but not everyone is either that mentally stable or mentally mature. We had kids of nine boasting on the radio on how they were getting the game and idiotic parents justifying their buying of it by saying they wouldn\'t get a minute\'s peace otherwise. Thinking of nine year olds re-enacting some of this stuff beggars belief.

I agree with your points re: schools mate. Many kids today are both fearless and lack any kind of respect. I was also a teacher for a while and have seen things go so rapidly into decline it\'s untrue. This isn\'t apocryphal, doom-mongering, I\'ve seen it first hand. I got threatened by a 10 year old with a toasting fork of all things (Yes, I admit there is some comedy there). After I\'d taken it off him and bent it in two what perturbed me most was he showed no visible signs of fear or remorse just pure feral anger.
Yeah, I know, we\'re probably into another argument here but suffice to say, I think you got out of the UK at the right time. Long may it be before this kind of thing hits the shores of New Zealand...

I\'ve played games all my life and never wanted to harm a soul, did Jack the Ripper play GTA and then think \"I know what will be fun I\'ll go and murder a whole bunch of prostitutes that\'ll be fun\", no he didn\'t.

The game is meant for 18+ which means that you should be old enough to know right from wrong and that if you don\'t by now you never will. As for kids playing the game of cause they shouldn\'t that\'s why its rated 18+, if the parents let them play it then they should be held to account for breaking the law.

It\'s not those with the ability to rationalize that concern me, but those without the knowledge, intellect or even life experience as I believe I\'ve already said... oh, and we all know Jack The Ripper preferred Pacman

I played it today at my friend\'s house (people at school who own 360 or PS3s have been talking about it and preordering for ages!). I hadn\'t played any GTA games before. I\'m 15, by the way ;)

The killing innocent people thing was a bit nasty (I stabbed a nurse to death who was having a fag outside her hospital), but it wasn\'t really sickening or anything. I enjoyed the graphics, the free-roaming aspect, and the interactivity, and stealing cars was so much more fun than stabbing people! Especially with a ramp. And a limo, airport baggage carrier or truck :D

It lives in your part of the worl, spacemunkie. Usually more closer to Oz but that one was found north-west of NZ. It doesn\'t really have muscles as such, it\'s pretty much made up of a gelatinous substance.

I\'d love to find something like that!

Was at the beach today. All I found was a dead duck. Sarah told me off for drop-kicking it :duh:

Unfortunately methinks you won\'t have any luck fishing for one unless you have a deep trawling net. They live down the bottom, just floating above the bed (their bodies have a lower density than water).

Thanks a lot for the Blobfish :D

Unfortunately Scott, it\'ll be hard for you to find one. It lives in deep waters off the coasts of Australia and Tasmania. The pressure is several dozens of times higher than at sea level, which would likely make gas bladders inefficient. To remain buoyant, the flesh of the blobfish is primarily a gelatinous mass with a density slightly less than water; this allows the fish to float above the sea floor without expending energy on swimming. The relative lack of muscle is not a disadvantage as it primarily swallows edible matter that floats by in front of it.

Yum

I would honestly like to say that after playing the game for a few days, I wish it was more violent..

no axe? no chainsaw? limited squirts of blood... Sure there are tons of ways to murder people in the game..but I want to go past that level.. I want a bloodbath.

And no..I\'m not crazy..how do I know? I didn\'t vote for Bush... twice.....
