Rocky is looking outstanding Guawol...you've massively excelled yourself on him. Congrats

As for the basing.... I would try to push the depth in the recesses on all of it. Looks a little flat currently...agree the muted palette is a good plan but it needs more variation in colour in the deeper points to throw out the dragon and the marble elements...

hope this makes sense and helps!

By pushing the depths do you mean darkening the recesses with a variety of darker tones?

Yes, think it just needs more contrast darkness in places to give it definition. You'll be able to tell better looking at it in person...I know sometimes photos and lighting can be deceptive on here...

I'll definitely give it a shot! It has been tough figuring out the lighting for the base since I tried to have the light source be from above, which means most of the base is under the dragons out stretched wings shadow, and I havent quite got the concept down for highlighting in shadow.

Just a quick update since it has been awhile, and I finally got about an hour of work in on the dragon. I am close to finishing it up, so I'm trying to get that final push of motivation. I want to get cracking on the next project or I'll never finish all the models I currently have. As for what I did to the base, I added a bluish grey color to some of the recesses in the base to try and added a bit more color as well as hopefully have bits of the base pop a little more. I also worked on the marbling effect of the broken pillar, from a distance it looks ok because the colors and lines blend together but up close it loses a bit of its magic. Still I'm happy with it for my first attempt at doing marble. I'm still going to go back and probably use a very thin dark green to outline bits of the marble to get the details to pop.

It is great to see you making progress on the dragon and in the picture anyway, the marble looks pretty good. The picture is a little blurry on my computer so it is hard to really see the details but I feel as if there could be a bit of foliage (like dead grass) or something else to break up the dirt a bit more. Perhaps there is some on the base already and I just am not seeing it. Regardless, this is a great looking display piece as is and you should be proud of it!

So this will probably be the last update on the dragon, at least for awhile. I want to add some foliage, but want to search for what works just right before picking it up. . I think I am done with the painting though just need to seal it. So now I just need to finish painting Rocky and then on to new projects.

Thank you both! I agree with you Ten ball that is why I want to look around and see if there is anything that can work without clashing, ultimately I want to keep the base muted on colors so the dragon stands out.

Looking really nice. Maybe bring some of the colors of the dragon into the base: a few small atches of green grass, a couple of bluish rocks (or water puddles). And a few weeds with red flowers.

As KB said, maybe getting some slightly muted colours onto the base from the dragon.

He's looking awesome though. You've done great with this project

That isnt a bad idea, bring in a bit of the main base colors I used on the dragon. I'll definitely need to look into acquiring more basing materials, since I never really focused on it I'm currently working with very limited supplies :p Thank you both!

Basing is something I find daunting too Guawol but I think KB and Foxtail have improved upon my suggestion to you and given you a good direction to move in. There is a whole world of basing stuff out there and I think you can find something that will work well for your needs :)

Brilliant work on the dragon, as I previously noted, combining that quantities of colours almost all in their bright version is not an easy task to handle, you have done it an excellent way ^^

Oh wow! That is quite a mini haul and will keep you busy for a while. I can't wait to see what you do with those minis Guawol!

Rocky came out great and those little crystal type tones on his legs look fantastic! I think you did a nice job working a variety of colors into this mini too. It was really fun seeing you work on this mini and I look forward to your next couple of projects :)

Nothing to much I just got back from a camping trip so I didn't have a lot of time to work on anything, but I did begin the prep for a few new projects:

This is the Fire myrmidon from the same set as Rocky.
My scheme is going to be something similar to this:

Then I have:

Paolo E Francesca from Aradia miniatures, it is the Kickstarter Exclusive model from their Dante's Inferno project.

Finally I have 2 Chaplins, one with a jump pack and one in terminator armor:

I painted them a long time ago and, since I feel my skill has improved and I wanted to try out using Simple Green to strip miniatures, I figured I would try to repaint them to match my alternative Ultramarine scheme.
