Guinness IS good for you!

Ever heard the old slogan, \"Guinness is good or you\"? Turns out it\'s true! Guinness is lower in alchohol, calories, and carbs than any beer not specifically labled \"lite\".

While doctors have long recommended moderate drinking (about one serving a day) to help prevent heart attacks, a recent study shows that Guinness may be more effective than other beers in producing this affect.

In a study done by the University of Wisconsin, it was proved to be twice as effective as Heineken in preventing blood clots that increase the risk of heart attacks.

It is also loaded with flavonoids, a type of antioxidant. These antioxidants are more effective than vitamins C & E at keeping LDL cholesterol from clogging arteries.

Right, then, chaps, I\'m off to the pub for a pint. ;)

The article also mentioned something about it helping stave off impotence. So maybe being good can help you be bad. ;)

Yes, the article did mention that red wine is noted for its heart benefits. But for beer, Guinness is the best.

But of course we have the french paradox in health terms. They have a lower instance of heart disease and cancer than their counterparts in Europe. They ALL lol smoke and drink copiously eat all manner of saturated fats (i\'m thinking compote(?) of duck in duck fat mmmmm) and yet are the healthist, waif like and cheerful members of the EU:p
BTW @frenchkid is guinness widely availible on your side of the Channel with that, cheap house prices and obvious health benefits I will consider moving over there.

Ahhhh draft bitumen

For the adventurous amongst take one pint of Guinness extra cold then add one shot glass of Glayva (for the unitiated a Whiskey liqueur with honey and herbs). Tastes like extra cold mead and guaranteed to stop gross motor control within three pints.;)

@Calavera - Egils Gull sounds like a Dwarven brew to me (Egil\'s Gold).

Ah the discussion of Adult beverages.
Way back when I lived in Newcastle (Tyneside) there was a Real Ale Off -licence. (Liquor store to those in the US) Where you could buy 5 litre containers of home brewed brain death to consume at home.
I think my IQ dropped 20 points permanently after visiting that place.
Mind you it did introduce me to \"Chi\'Mai\" Belgian beer brewed by Trappist Monks. And several other \'refreshments\'...
Ah those were the days. I wonder what ever happend to the shop, it was called \"Legendary Yorkshire Heroes\".
I suppose the Heroes were the ones who ddin\'t have a hangover after having visited.......:D

Legendary Yorkshire Heroes, hmmm I wonder wether it was a chain as we had two L Lancashire heroes near me in manchester. It had pumps and \'guest ales\' which as you say could be purchased in gallons or half gallons. It was in the mid to late 80\'s(the lager years).
I wonder wether the concept would go down better now with the new(ish) microbrewery culture we seem to have going now?

I\'m sure I\'ll get the occasional look of horror here, but i like my guinness with a dash of blackcurrant in it. It takes the edge off the bitterness with the added bonus of vitamin C. Even better for you then!

I\'d have to check on that but i don\'t recall seeing any guinness bottle recently round here. Heinecken an desperado seem to be the two \'local\' beers.
And if you want to talk about local liqueur, with a monastary in the moutains right next to us wich make a drink called \'chartreuse\' don\'t know any better way to warm you up when you\'re up to your waist in snow. Of course you\'ll have to do with the partial side effect of having your tong and throat melt.

Guinness Bottle....

You won\'t be finding that (at least I have never seen that)... Guinness comes in Draft Flow Cans... with a nice little widget in it that releases nitrogen when the can is opened -> aerates the beer.

I good ol\' pint of Bodigtons or Newcastle for me... or a huge glass of Hoegarden.. for myself...

This is evil... we shouldn\'t be talking about this when my shift just started....

You can get guinness in bottles(at least in the UK), and the generous little souls even put it in screw top bottles for you :)

i didn\'t realised they were srew tops, have never tried the stuff in bottles, is it any good? i\'ve never been the biggest fan of the black stuff but the proper pints in ireland are the stuff that dreams are made of. truly a meal in a glass *dribble*

I love the stuff. Its the larger bottles that is in screw tops, and it is the \'traditional\' recipe, not the extra cold or anything like that. You can get smaller bottles with the regular bottle tops (i think). As said earlier, tastes may vary as i add blackcurrant to mine :D

If you are ever in the Glen Coe area of Scotland you want to go to Clackades on a Saturday night they do only real ales on a weekend for all the walkers/climbers and they do the guinness equivalent called Scottish Oats it looks like Guinness but is actually a lot thicker and a bitter sweeter but more than three pints and I had to start drinking something else talk about a meal in a glass this stuff really bloated you.
