Guitars suck.

I have started playing the guitar and I feel like I really suck. I had my first lesson last tuesday and was told to practice power chords. I practice at least 30 minutes a day and I feel like I get worse with every minute..... it just sounds wrong.
OK, havin complained about my inability to learn such a simple thing here\'s something for you to ponder: You might think it\'s a good idea to practice at 1 AM. You might think that connectiong your guitar to your amp at 1 AM might help you with your practice.
You might be wrong.

It\'s not a question of being beaten...

It\'s just realising where your strengths lie. I was a crap guitarist, too many strings...
I am happy with a bass and I realised that I naturally accessed the music I listened to through the bassline, so therefore I would never have made a good six string player as it wasn\'t my \'natural\' instrument.

Bass guitar does come a lot more naturally to me..

If I remember rightly from the PYP thread, thats Finns house, not a guitar store (much to the annoyance of his better half lol) Respect to you Finn, I\'m a bassist too although I have had to draw the line at 2 bass guitars (which means I\'m more under the thumb than you!)

Guitars don\'s suck Mosch, guitars rock!!! This may sound silly but if it is sounding worse are you sure it is in tune? The key to learning it (along with anything) is practice and a little patience. Remember back to the first mini\'s you ever painted- I\'ll bet they are nowhere near as good as what you can paint now- because you learned and practiced new techniques. Stick with it mate, \'if you book them, they will come\'

Hope to see you onTop of the Pops soon (although you will have to get real good real quick as they are axing it soon ???)

Hey Mosch, don\'t stress it. Guitars take work, but I think you\'ll find you\'re getting too tense. You need to focus on all your body not just the hands and fingers and relax. If you have tension in any other part of your body while you\'re trying to play, it\'ll screw up anything else you\'re trying to do.

And take it slow, you always have to start off slow and steady. Too many people try to learn but don\'t take time to learn it right. Get your teacher to show you the right ways to play the notes and then play it ultra slow until you get it. Then speed it up. It\'s the best way to go.

You need to learn from the beginning the right way to play otherwise later on when you get it you\'ll end up struggling because of bad foundation.

I remember going to a concert and after my then girl friend went to talk to the pianist and said \"I\'d give half my life to play as well as you do\"

The pianist said \"I did\"

Practice. And if in doubt louder is better.

Never give up never surrender ...i was a bed room guitarist for a good few years untill i was given a oppertunity to play in a band its well worth it. My advice is to pick something(song wise) you really want to play, nail down the basic song structure and keep hammering it out. Keep the faith. Rock hard... rock heavy...rock animal...rock on!!

Approach it like you would painting a figure.
Break the whole thing down into sections to learn. Practise the piece you want to get right then when you are happy with it go to the next section and slowly build up to the whole piece.

Yeah, I\'m pretty sure it\'s in tune. I\'ll retune it later though, maybe I effed something when I played around with the whammy bar.

HA! Tell that to those (noisy and aggravating) neighbours\' kids... you bet your butt I\'m tense :D

Yeah, of course. I\'m not trying to play Iron Man or something ;) I can play three easy songs from a book he advised me to buy but none has more than three different notes.

I\'m trying my best.... I just can\'t see what I\'m doing wrong.

OK, Guitar is cleaned and primed. Now, I\'ve applied the basecoats, but I have a lot of problems with the shadows..... :D
Actually I\'m not really trying to play a whole song, it\'s just a simple ||:A F G A:|| thingy....

Wolf Fang, that\'s one fine looking guitar! Mine\'s an Ibanez, black and white body.... I wonder where my mother hid the stupid camera.....

mosch, pm me explaining what you can do already.

i can then advise you on what you NEED to know and learn before doing anything else.

a lot of so called tutors start people off by teaching them songs because it is easier than teaching you how to realy play.

i am a guitar tutor mate, and people come to me by reputation.

hopefully this makes sense as i have a virus at the moment.

I\'m just glad no-one has starting having a go at drummers yet ;) lol

I know what you mean though - I know most of the chords, and can play about 3 tunes through, but I still haven\'t figured out how to play bar chords :/

Then again, I\'m self-taught :p

I agree with the \"natural instrument\" though - I\'m much more at ease behind a kit with stuff to bash :p

(Just don\'t ask me to remember samba!)
