Guy On Frog... help with color please?

Hi! This is my first official cry for help. I started working on this dude a couple days ago to tide me over till my ME minis come... I\'m pretty pleased with the man\'s face and I love how the frogs eyes turned out, but I don\'t know what color to make the frog. I was thinking dark orange... but I\'m not sure. I really want those bright green eyes to stand out when he\'s finished. The man\'s clothes are made out of leaves, so I\'ll probably do them in muted green colors. Any advice?

Well my two cents is that if you want the eyes on the frog to stand out like they are then just keep running with the brown color you\'ve got him now. Maybe add a few spots of a different color to make him interesting. If you do orange though I think the orange will detract from those nice green eyes.

If you really want the eyes to pop, you should do the flesh is a red or purple color. Red is green\'s complement on the color wheel and would bring the highest contrast. Orange or purple would probably cause a lot of pop too, but red would really get the job done.

That said....it could turn into a VERY loud frog in a hurry so be careful.

Thank you for the advice... fieldarchy, you confirmed my fear about the orange that it would distract from the eyes. I think I will stick with the brown for the shadows and then blend up to a dark brownish red as mattrock suggested, maybe with a little brighter red on the lumps? I think I need to stay as dark and muted as possible though to keep those eyes looking like they glow.

How about doing it as a blue poison frog?

It\'s colourful but not loud and the eyes would certainly pop

Edit: found another pic as the last one seems to have gone awol

I would agree with the reddish-brown frog. I would be careful about the brighter red lumps because you don\'t want the lumps to distract from the eyes. Instead you may want a \"lighter\" reddish-brown for the lumps. Keep the frog somewhat subdued in color to help keeps the eyes standing out.

I look forward to seeing the final mini.

Undave! That blue frog is wicked kewl! I love it! Now I have to figure out if I start over on the frog that I\'ve been working on all morning... or keep going with the brown/red and forever wish I had started over... orange glowing eyes would be awesome with the blue and black...

Well, I have painted this frog 4 times now! I\'m not thrilled with how he looks right now, but he\'s acceptable. He\'s lumpy, which made painting the spotted pattern difficult. I love how the blue looks with the green eyes, so the eyes stay! I think I\'ll finish painting the rest of the mini, and then go back to touch up the frog. Thanks again Undave for the reference photo... I really do love the blue! It\'s my painting skills that need work. lol

That does actually work really well. Good job. Any chance of some other views so we can see the spots?

and I belive a touch of color on the base would help raise the rating:bouncy:

I think that blue is absolutely top dollar - looking as leathal as possible. I was afraid that the green eyes wouldn\'t work with it, but it absolutely does. You need to put in an aperture to finish it off though.

That looks really good! Great job on the frog...really makes the whole thing stand out. And any man enough to ride on a poisonous frog is one not to be trifled with.
