GW base paints glossy

hey guys, started getting into painting again.

Just a quick question.

When I was basecoating a cloak on a mini, I basecoated it with one of GW's blue base paints, forgot the name tbh. But it was a base paint nonetheless.

When I was done basing the cloak, after watering down the paint to about a 1:1 ratio, and covering the cloak with several thinner layers.

I noticed, compared to when I used to base things with regal blue, it came out more as a matte finish, compared to this new gw base paint, when done, came out a little glossy.

Anyone else getting this?

Yeah the new line is a bit less matte than the old, but not drastically so. It does keep them from getting chalky when thinning for washes and glazes. Maybe you got a pot that was sitting on the shelf a bit long and isn't quite right. I had that happen with some VMC a while back, didn't know what was going on since most of those are nice and flat - turns out it was on the shelf for a few years. Beware the clearance bins ;)

glossy is better then foamy,..

As a pratical joke,.. put a few drops of dish soap in each of your friends paint pots and shake well,..

Threadomancy but maybe useful to somebody out there. You're getting a glossy result because, as you said you applied "several thinned layers." Applying too many layers, regardless of their consistency, will always result in a glossy finish. Next time, stop applying layers sooner than you think is necessary. For me, when I learned how to control this it really helped me out a lot.
