GW changes to cheaper materials and puts up prices.

Anyone fancy a rant?

GW are changing White metal to resin and are putting up there prices on the minis switched over.

The "official" line is they want to improve the quality of there casts and therefore putting up the price due to allegedly buying in new technology to do this.

Reality is they wanted to cut cost and found a way to put a positive spin on a price rise.

To me this smacks of the upmost disrespect for your customers when you openly lie to them.

Did you expect anything else from them?

I'm one of the few that never really grumbled about the annual price rises or less product in boxes and have always tried to support my local GW but when they are flat out lying to the customer I find it hugely offensive, it takes a lot to get me going but this could well be the straw that broke the camels back.

Ironically it's now cheaper to buy a forgeworld armour pack than a box of sternguard, when did the world get so crazy that forgeworld was a cheaper option than GW?

Great, i prefer working with resin but this is crap on a stick. Really not buying anymore GW stuff untill i have painted everything!

Since they're supposed to be targeting naive young people who are prone to breakages, shouldn't they at least cast these things in kevlar to justify the hike and their shitty attitude?

Solution is simple!!

Buy from Hasslefree, Wyrd, Heresy, Fenris, Artizan, Tengu, Avatars of War, Reaper, Iron Metals, Urban Mammoth, Dark Age, Studio Miniatures, Bronze Age, and any of the vast quantity of fine companies to choose from. Better quality, better products, better service, and better price.

Solved!

Malifaux is a great game. After a few play throughs to learn the rules it can be very fun even if you loose.

I do buy from other companies and play other war-games and like I said before the pricing isn't really an issue for me, it's the fact they decided they would be better of trying to lie to it's customers rather than just saying, yep we changed materials to cut overheads but we still felt the margins were too small so we need to put up the prices to a point we feel is commercially viable.

Perhaps I'm just old fashioned in being able to accept bad news better than dishonesty. Seems I'm an idealist in a world were everyone is happy to accept open deceit and not question it.

Oh dear! What percentage increase are they looking at? 5%? 10%?

Must readjust budget... Let's see... $0.00 set aside for GW product, times the increase of (I'll be pessimistic) 110%, gives me a new amount of $0.00 to set aside.

Good news! I won't be spending much more than I already am! Yeah for me!

Pretty much beat me to it. Throw in BaneLegions, Mantic, Warlord Games, Enigma Miniatures (just adding what else is on my desk) and still so much more and we have never had it so good. Whatever nostalgic positive feelings I may once have had for GW have been thoroughly burned out of me.

It's far more positive to think about the universe of cool stuff available to us than to care what any single company is doing, irrespective of their history.

I take this to be the new 'Citadel Finecast' that was annouced in a way yesterday?

yeah i agree. its not like gw is forcing anyone to buy their stuff.

True SkelettetS, everyone is entitle to his or her veiw's.

You know what, I've heard this kind of thing when Royal Doulton switched making the figurines they are famous for from England to Thialand, and still charged the same amount. People thought because they weren't being made here that the price should have come down. It did come down slightly after 7-8yrs afterwards, possibly just to bring them into line with what else was out there.
As long as I can still get what I want, I'm happy.

GW has been going downhill for a few years. It's sad, they could do so much for the hobby and they're no longer interested in the hobby...outside of their profits which they seem to take ever increasing joy in the ways they weasel the cash out of their clients.

Sure there are some great companies out there, but how many of them have the following of GW? How many of them have players and leagues and tournaments in EVERY city on the globe (practically)...so yeah, I'm more than a little bitter at GW pissing it all away. At least, for those of us into playing games, not just painting.

I glanced over the blog post they put up and thought they would be offering a limited number of there casts in resin rather than completely migrating over there existing mini's. One thing I would say in counter-argument to the price rise (which I wholeheartedly disagree with) is that although resin is cheaper, the investment & overhead for switching for such a large company is going to me a lot more than it would be for a smaller company. Same applies for a lot of things for larger companies.

p.

2 price hike's in six months. ONLY they could get away with that. The thing is they are not even resculpts. Here are the prices enjoy (remember some of these are very old minis)

The only price that shocks me is the
91-41 Vampire Counts Blood Knights £61.50
Seeing as they are already £51.25 atm and even I won't pay that much for a unit no matter how much I like it.

I have been hearing a lot about how much the metal costs have increased in just the past year but I wonder if they would have been better off resculpting and/or converting the rest to plastic? Nothing like telling a father and son looking to get into WH that the resin dust is toxic and be sure to year a mask when you are sanding down the mold lines. Is there a "safe" resin out there that they found to use? I haven't worked with resin yet are there any benefits? It looks like you can get more detail when you make the model in resin but I can't see the detail magically appearing from the old metal molds.

Eh I dunno if there's a non-toxic resin...this day and age I suspect there must be really. I doubt GW will use that if the toxic stuff is cheaper though, even at that. You can get a lot more detail out of resin, yes. Very sharp and crisp casts. And yes again, casting resin in the old molds is going to come out absolutely terrible. As previously mentioned, it wouldn't be so bad if they actually resculpted them for it!

I don't think Ragnar Blackmane has had a new sculpt in about 20 years... Or Ulrik...
