Gw conversion chart

sadly I have to say: forget this chart. I remember the few colors I tried on saturday, and those didn't match to the old ones.

for example:
- baal red is a LOT lighter, than carroburg crimson. (altough here I felt, that the baal red should have this darker shade from the beginning)
- nuln oil is more like a mix of badab and devlan.
- mecrite red is darker and more brown than mephiston red (I also liked this change)
- ultramarines blue has a bit of purple in it, altdorf didn't have any. For me altdorf is more like magic-blue. (after seeing in the store(and the gw website too), that UMs are not painted with UMBlue paint anymore it doesn't really matter )
- Lyaden darksun is lighter and less orange than the averland sunset.

- iceblue - lothernblue is about right
- whites are well, whites, no problem here :)

the rest I don't remember.

also the chart itself is bad in this way: caliban-green equals both orkhide shade and DAGreen? well those 2 don't have the same shade.
The chart is more like: if you used color X you can use color Y instead (what not said is: but they won't have the same shade, so your army after this point will look different than with the paints before.)

Cheers for posting that 10 ball, though i'll take Max's advice and be careful about the colours. I kind of expected they wouldnt be an exact match anyways.

@rg88 Games-Workshop are just in the process of re-doing their paint range, which iirc will be out this coming weekend. They are comparing the colours to those of the old GW paint range.

etc

GW hasn't quite nailed the communication side of this change.

The new range of paints has new names because they are new paints. They are not intended to match the prior range.

That chart is to indicate the nearest equivalent to colours in the prior range.

Remember colours on your monitor are a pretty rough guide to 'in real life'.

No problem with the communication change, I know they are new paints.
It's just that that chart is all wrong, there are better machups in the colors than what the chart suggests.

For example according to the chart:
Mordian Blue --> Macragge Blue
Ultramarine Blue --> Altdorf Guard Blue
When in reality it's more like: Macragge Blue is closest to the UMBlue. Mordian being a LOT darker shade, and the Altdorf a lot lighter (actually it's about midway between iceblue and magicblue)

also saying that DAGreen and Orkhide Shade can be replaced with the same color (just noticed the same with necron-abyss and regalblue)... They are not only different in lightness, but also in shade.

Yeah the chart is pretty much crap. They are off by a margin in terms of hue. It's easier just to eyeball it. At least then it's your own variation in color and not a gw forced one.

Holy tits. This helps me so freaking much. I've been looking for days on the internet for something like this. Thanks man for the post.

I'll be digging out my 20 year old paints shortly as I will have some resin casts to paint up. Hopefully I won't have to replace any as GW have a habit of keeping me waiting as I only ever go in to buy the odd single pot of black paint!
