Excuse the name....i have no idea who he is, he was a gift from a friend. However, he is fun to paint :)

Still very much WIP, here's a pic of the NMM i tried on the blade. I gave it some nicks and dents to make it a little more battle worn.

While it aint great, it is a step up for me. Can anyone give me and critique please? I'd like to be able to improve it some more if i can.

i think you could go a step further with the NMM and give it more spothighlights(?), although im no expert at NMM, but other then that the blend looks fine to me, maybe not superb but i think its quite convincing :)
and with the red it looks a little bit messy, not the highlights they look fine just a bit fleshy to my taste ;), but it seems there are purple spots in it?
But it looks like a great start! looking forward to see more of this one.

You nmm is nice but you have to increase you lights. To make it look a bit more metal you must highlight it up to white, just a little bit because for this kind of nmm you don't need to flood the blade with light, it'll be better with a just very smooth touch of white.
Your red's also good but also too fleshy for me, I think you should paint it in a more red tone.

lol, the robe is supposed to be purple....its had about 30 layers of purple so far......i need to keep it up. It clearly needs more work ;) Cheers for the comments though. I figured the NMM was maybe a little too dark in places. If i start at a lighter grey as the base and work right up to white i think that may be more convinving.....

Hi Wicksy, the purple dress I've just painted on the vampire in my WIP was based with Warlock Purple, highlighted up through Kommando Khaki & White, shaded back with Scaly Green. It's in my WIP thread if you want to see if it's an approach you like? The Scaly Green might sound weird but a small amount in with the Warlock looks an awful lot like Liche Purple!

The highlights on the skirt seem to have gone well but any shading I'd suggest the paint was too thin, jam some paint rather than pink water into those creases! Or ink if you've got it :)

NMM is a mystery to me but it looks smooth enough which is a big chunk of the battle, good stuff.

Cheers, B.

Cheers. I'm a bit annoyed with myself as i spent the evening working on the back part of the robe.....i used too thick a paint mix and the highlights looks like stripes instead of being blended in. I shall have to spend sometime fixing those errors.....i may need to rebase the area and start again. It'll teach me to thin my paints properly. I'll give your model a look. I'd be interested to see how it looks compared to my robes.
