Gw forum closing

The problem with GW [and i mean the old email response stuff] was that for every genuine enquirey, you had about 50 emails about nothing, rubbish or questions you could answer for yourself if you dedicated but a moment\'s thought. Phone traffick that could be dealt with by 4 people had to be increased to 12 to deal with the emails.... because as representatives of GW you couldn\'t say to someone that they were an idiot, you had to take the time to give a full and detailed response.
Now whenever i visited the forums, it seemed like they had about 8 staff babysitting a bunch of oxygen thieves and anyone who actually had anything interesting to say was drowned out by the crowd. Easier to have private forums where people can moderate with prejudice without it being an official thing. That\'s my thinking anyway :twisted:

I can see where your coming from but threads discussing why does lotr have such low page count and rubbish quality articles even got banned, even though they did actually have good suggestions.

Which is actually a shame, because their recent releases, especially in the plastics have been pretty good.
With the forums, they reaped what they sowed, push the games at kids and that is what your forum will end up full of.

Speaking as a brand owner too (albeit in a different industry), what alleycat is saying is by our way of thinking as well. Best to just link to a few good fan forums so that you don\'t need to police your own customers.
That said, companies that do their business mostly online, such as Blizzard (WoW) and server hosting companies support their forums with lots of paid staff since it\'s a core part of their business.
