GW: Foundation Paints - Thoughts?

Would anyone like to comment on the upcoming Games Workshop Foundation Paints?

Here is the description from GW:

Want to change the way you paint forever? Then the Citadel Foundation paints are for you! This fantastic new paint range has been specially formulated to complement the existing Citadel Colour paint. The Foundation Paints have been designed to provide great coverage, creating a solid block of colour with one application over any undercoat.

There are some good colours in the range, in between the existing ones. Everything I\'ve heard suggests they are decent, although the \'covers in one coat\' claim isn\'t always true according to my sources. I\'ve not used them though so I\'m no expert.

well i dont like the idea of it. we should have a paint that works not one we need to buy two or three of. also this has been brought b4 i think. but hey there is alwasy room for more. :)

they\'d better be good - i have pre ordered mine! i had a try in the shop today and from a quick go, they work very nicely. the ones i used went on very well and had great coverage. they thin nicely for inks as well

I definetly agree, very good and the coverage is excelent although for normal painting I would feel the need to thin the paint, also they stay wet for longer wich is jolly good for blending. Pip, pip tally ho\'

Well some painters here have had the luck to get them before anyone else, and apparently they have positive feedback on the paints. Some cool colors apparently.

Only downside I\'v heard so far is that they have an horrible taste, so not for the brushlickers :p

yep they are excelent so far. they take alittle getting use to cos when that yellow goes on in one you kinda freak out thinking \" i put on too thick a coat!\" but its actually a nice thin layer:)

Maybe it\'s just a taste that needs getting used to! :duh: And once you have you actually love it!

Well, I\'m in no hurry to get them, but if there\'s some nice colours in the range I might pick up a couple.

If they are in the flip top lids, I may consider a few as well.

I\'m starting to think Vallejo and their eye dropper vials are a mistake....I\'ve had so many in the \"Game Color\" line either pop the tops, or plug up so badly I cannot clean it well enough...

Wow! You\'ve piqued my interest. Up to this point, I\'ve been using Citadel and VGC, but I may have to try a few of the Foundation paints. A smooth yellow in one coat you say.... hmmmm.

the yellow did impress me - one coat over black. i licke my brush in the shop before trying it and decided against it after.

@supervike - the bottles are quite cool as they have a \'stay open\' type notch thing on them that keeps the top open at 90\' - perfect for dipping your brush in

I am actually very impressed with the paints. ESPECIALLY the bottles. These hold the same amount of paint (12 ml) but look smaller. As stated above the flip top is very good. It clicks into place so it wont go flopping back down. I hope, hope, HOPE that they convert all the paints into these new bottles, they are that great.

I tried them out at the local bunker, thanks to a very nice manager.

I really don\'t think they\'re any better than VMC, and some of the colors are easily mixable. I can see the little plastic clips that hold up the tops will break easily.

The coverage is as good as they say it is, and a few of the colors will be worth it. I really did like Tallarn Flesh.

They will be great for out of the bottle painters, and by that I mean army painting, but I personally like mixing paint.

The first guy I talked to that actually used them gave a pretty mediocre review, but talking to a GOOD painter who has used them I\'ve heard nothing but good things.

They should make a worthy addition to my paint collection... assuming I can pour them into my gas tank in a pinch... ;)

So they actually do what it says on the tin? Spot on then, GW, I grew weary of trying to get a basecoat of desert yellow over any kind of colour. I think I\'ll give these ones a try.

I had a go of the new paints at my local GW store and I must say I was impressed.
They do go on in one layer over primer and when thinned you can see the difference between these and the normal GW range, much more pigment and less chalky-ness from the light colours like yellow.
The colours are very nice too the tallarn flesh
in particular and astronomican grey, the only one I did\'nt see was the orange but I\'m sure its as good as the others were.
