hey...

i am, as the topic says, a gw ignorant but i really find space marines exciting. something about their form makes me wanna paint them. i bought me the plastic regiment and i\'d like to paint them but paint them as close within the \"rules\" of gw as possible (just in case). can somebody help me out? what can these guys carry (equipment wise)? i bought the tactical squad just so that you can help me a bit better...

thanks for reading this... thanks in advance for your answers...:)

ps just in case you are wondering... still don\'t know as what to paint them... either black templars or blood angels...

I hate to say it but if you want to paint them to the current \"cannon\" then you need to plunk the cash down for the books from GW that deal with the units you want to paint. Sure you can get some suggestions here or on the GW site, but if you want them to follow the rules, then the rules you must buy. lol

I\'m not saying you cant get help here. But if you want to follow a strict interpretation of what each guy can carry, then GW and the books are your best bet. If it were me, I\'d do something off the wall at best like paint Black Templars white or Blood Angels green - or worse, paint em like historical figures, or the Villiage People or something like that. But I dont paint a lot of GW, and I have been know to recommend the infamous lime green and purple color scheme just to shock the hell out of folks. I am the guy after all who painted his Battletech mechs and tanks in the traditions of Von Richtoffen\'s Flying Circus.

get you... :) i was thinking of painting them as spartans and as far as i know there has been someone converting sm into greeks before... couldn\'t find them anywhere though and with my lack of time at the mo i gave it up... maybe i should put them aside and do something different with them at a better time... now i am off to take a look at your minis... i\'m curious.

Ah, the stuff I have up here only has my Batlas up. Just havent had time to post any of the others yet.

I disagree.

Colour wise you can paint them any colour you like. There are around a 1000 different chapters, of which only a handful have even been mentioned let alone fully detailed.

As far as equipment goes, again you can\'t go far wrong. The tactical box IIRC allows for a sarge with chainsword and bolt pistol, a flamer and a missile launcher and the rest with bolters. Any of them can have a knife and any can have extra packs, magazines, puches, gunsights, auspex, whatever. Go to town, give them all kilts, makes not a jot of difference even if you wanted to play a tournament legal army.

The only thing that does really need to be accurate is the weaponry and even then ther\'s room for artistic liscence, no-one is gonna complain if you give a missile launcher guy a bolt pistol as well. I guess some very anal people might but I would merely remove myself from such sad individuals presence as quickly as possible... :D

Well, the model I used for the Batlas is up here on the website - hopefully I\'m going to get the rest up the website over the holidays.

Well, Trevos summed it up pretty well, it´s true you can actually paint them the color you want, as long as you don´t say it´s one of the \'official\' chapters like Blood Angels, Space Wolfs, Ultramarines.... I always wanted to get some basic marines just to paint them (I have Grey knights - beautiful, but not variabe) but I naver found the money; by the way, GW is very harsh if you don´t base your mini, beople get thrown out of the GW shop day after day ´cause they don´t base their Space Marines - own fault!

You can paint them any color you like and use blood angels, space wolves, etc. rules. Just claim them to be succesors.

Except the Space Wolves don\'t have any successor chapters, and the Blood Angel successor Chapters are all listed int he codex.

Still, most players won\'t object to you using Blood Angels rules, so long as your miniatures are red or black somewhere.

There are always the Iron Hands or Flesh Tearers.

There are always the Iron Hands or Flesh Tearers. There are some really interesting background info for the Flesh Tearers.

I am still having your problem. I want to do a marines chapter too. I can\'t decide between the Iron Hands or the Fleshtearers. I have some conversion ideas for the FTs and I like their background information. I also like the Iron Hands.

And if you ever get into fantasy this starts all over again.:bouncy:

Blood Dragons or Necarchs? ??? ???

As far as being tournament legal for GW you need at least 3 seperate colors on each figure and based-other than that anything goes. Errr that probably didn\'t help you with color selection tho
