GW ink

how do you keep an ink wash from looking glossy. i just painted a cloak and wanted it to look a bit worn and dirty but when i washed it it glossed over on me

Well, it\'s all over the web... thin it... 5-7 parts water to 1 part ink has worked for me.

Just use a matt varnish after you\'ve finished painting, protects the mini too.

Adding water doesn\'t work for me either...

I just give it a spray of Dullcoat *after* giving a first coat of GW sealant to protect the dullcoat from making the paint run or anything.

don\'t really like ink myself, as you said, it\'s too damn glossy

Matte varnish to finish off with every time! Does the trick perfectly.

Well, it\'s useful for it\'s ability to flow so nicely, in fact, sometimes too much! I still need to get some of that artist\'s flow stopper thing...

Would you happen to be Calavera\'s evil twin? Or perhaps the good one, I still haven\'t got Calavera fingered.

ya - I don\'t like thinnning ink down too much because doing so fundamentally changes the pigment density. (obviously??) In other words if it\'s too thin then it isn\'t the shade I want anymore ...know what I mean? I don\'t want to layer ink more than once.

But everyone who said a matte or a dull cote after is exactly right ...

I\'m more like his Swedish twin...errh

i like the colors so much more, because you can mix it to whatever color you\'d like.
ink is for me just a lazy way to make gems and such

it\'s really easy, just paint the gem mithril (sp?) silver, and then coat some layers of ink on it ..and to make it look a bit more realistick, put a white dot in one of the corners.
it doesn\'t look great but it\'s ok if you just dont have the energi (or skill) to paint the..better looking way

I\'ve also been doing that on my regiments, And I think it\'s a great way to do quick gems, and they look pretty good that way. And I use gold or bronz color when trying to do gems with warm colors (red ..)

Oh yeah.. Doc Faust had that one... always seemed weird to me.. i just do them like GW does
