gw metal models

hello everyone
today i got some daemons of chaos and a blister of rackhams dwarves af mid-nor and notice the metal types were totaly different does anyone now the type of metal gamesworkshop uses a friend of mine told me what rackham uses???

Games Workshop uses lead free white metal (90 something % tin I believe) and I\'m pretty sure Rackham uses a lead/tin alloy which explains why it tends to be brittle and darker in color.

You can tell the amount of lead a white metal has in it, by listening to it as you gently bend a thin bit. If its not got much lead in (i.e. GW) then you can actually hear it \'crackle\'.

Not that I\'d recommend bending the arm of a model just in case it snaps off...

I believe the make up is mostly tin and somthing called antimony ( not sure thats spelt right). They changed the make up in mid 90\'s to remove the lead so that it would be safer to manufacture and so that they could also export it to countries which had banned the import of lead and lead based products; such as Finland.
