GW paint price gripe *grab a beer*

So I went to my local GW store to buy 4 paints I need for commission work and when I saw the total at over $16 I darn near pooped a brick. $3.70 for a color paint? That is nuts! I remember when color paint used to cost $2.00. What a depressing day... :(

Oh Cool we can play the I remember when Game.. :drunk:

Face it everything has gone up in price, just not paint for toy soldiers..as Freak said, shop around for alternatives.

By the way, I can remember when gas was .60 cents a gallon and a brand new movie was $4.00 at the theater..

Where I grew up I used to be able to buy a movie ticket, small popcorn, and medium drink all for $5.

I use alternatives too but for this commission I started using GW paints and I am worried about mixing other brands to make the colors because I do not want to colors to vary between the minis.

In the same period of time that Citadel paints have gone up from 25 SEK to 35 SEK, Vallejo paints have gone from 25 SEK to... wait... 25 SEK. And there\'s more in the bottles... And they don\'t dry out in the pots...

I still use GW mainly because I\'m used to them but a recent trip into an actual store made my walet hurt a touch.. I ow get them mostly thrugh ebay sellers generally around 6 for 1 or 11 GBP .. Vallejo game colour are probably the closest match colour wise if your looking for cheaper but I\'ll be honest never really got on with them got a slightly waxier quality about them that I just don\'t like and to be honest can\'t really bring myself to relearn the twenty years plus that I have developed my familiarity with GW. .. I\'m also a big fan of flip top lids versus screw and drip bottles.. Yes flip tops do dry quicker especially if you paint with the pots open but putting down model and brush to unscrew a bottle cap after shaking the bloody paint again then unbocking the damn nozzle is a pain in te ass for me compared to keeping mini or brush in hand grabbing a pot and flipping the lid of with my teeth.. yep I\'ve eaten a fair few dropped a fair few but hey ho all good fun.

I like vallejo paints very much. I have a nice selection of them. I am wary about using the greens they have because I had a vallejo green (forgot which one exactly) and every time I painted one layer over another the previous layer would wipe off. I am working on a nurgle army commission so I do not want to risk this problem again.

Another price increase on paint? They just bumped it up to $3.50 not too long ago... It\'s only an extra 20 cents, sure, but still...

A lot of other stuff is getting increased to random prices. $41.25 for the greatswords, $58.something for the steam tank, etc. What happened to the rounded, even pricing?

Games Workshop must be spinning a Wheel of Fortune wheel to decide their prices. I don\'t know what the heck these guys are thinking.

But who am I kidding? I\'m still going to buy the stuff lol they\'ve got me hooked to their crack!

Sounds like a batch of paint stood too long on the store shelf. I had the same problem also with a green.
Solved it by leaving the paint upside down overnight, then shaking it like mad. several times.
Seemed as if the medium and paint had fully separated.

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but you could always try the War Store:

http://www.thewarstore.net/citadelpaintsbrushes.html

The GW stuff is 20% off retail, so you can save a little money. Yes, there are shipping costs, but it might be cheaper with the more you buy.

Just a thought.

You men \'gripe\' not grip. I thought GW was using beer for their paints. lol

But seriously... There are Vallejo model colours and Coat d\' arms.

I have been using Vallejo model colours since 2002 and have never been disappointed.

Yes I mean \"gripe\" and I think you mean \"mean.\" lol

I will edit the title. I guess I did not catch that. I normally post in the forums right when I wake up.

Fair enough. I thought you had a joke in this thread. Kind of like the Games Workshop condoms. That was hilarious.

There were three Warmachine fig\'s I ordered a few weeks back. Didn\'t look at the price, just ordered them cause they looked cool. I was expecting $30-$35......WRONG!! $57!! DOOOHHH!! I bought them anyway but it was a bit of a wake up. High priced fig\'s plus the California sales tax went up again....a lot!
