I have heard all the excuses and reasons submitted, but no matter what GW new \"standard\" is crap. Look at the gnoblar army a few White Dwarf issues back, I kept thinking the paint job and pictures were some kind of April Fool\'s joke. Every week I see better painted minis at my local gaming centers and they are painted for gaming at a \"tabletop\" standard. I feel GW is on the wrong path, and that dumbing down their painting standard is not the way to attract a younger 12 year old market. Reasonable pricing would be the way to go in my opinion, but asking that from GW would be like asking a cat to bark. GW is in decline. Rackham, Warlord (Reaper) and Warmachine have started to take away from their market locally since you can field an army cheaply and you get to play with beautiful minis ( I still dislike Rackham personally but their sculpting kicks GW in the ass). GW will do what GW wants, they always have, and our collective opinion will not change anything. I too hope Anja can revive the quality standard of painting that GW once had attached to all their products, but ther current trend tells me otherwise.
As far as the pre-heresy marines go, for the most part they suck. Most of them would make a good candidate for \"Crappy Mini Or Not\", stripped and painted with care most would be outstanding. Currently their should be a caution sign attached stating \"Clicking on this picture will cause a larger image to pop up, making the figure appear even crappier than it already is.\"
