Yep, that's the one that caught my attention as well. I'll wait for the Fine cast version.
why in the name of all that is unholy would you do that?!! if you have the option of placcy. ie solid, good sculpt or something 3 times the price and filled with casting errors and flaws, why would you choose the latter?

Does anyone get an eerie feeling that GW is fobbing everyone off with cack fail cast replacements of the metal minis just long enough for them to get everything changed to plastic? It seems a peculiar coincidence that the plastic characters are in the fail cast clamshells, almost like those clamshells were actually designed for the new "mini-sprue" style characters? Or would this represent too sensible a business decision for GW?

An interesting idea, but what would be the benefit of such an action? Why not keep the metal until plastic is ready for release?

On topic: Am I the only one who thinks that the monsters and scenery look a lot like ye olde he-man toys? :-D The oversised skulls and weired coloring give me horrible 80th flashbacks :-D

Because even with buying the new machinery it still represents a massive saving over metal, plus the investment cost wasn't anywhere near as high as GW made out. It would be a cheap low cost stop gap til they get there existing metal line re-designed into plastic.

Because the yield from the same volume is massively bigger with the new material. Another factor is shipping costs. How much to post metal figures compared to featherlite plastics? Didn't they introduce webstore terminals in most GWs so they don't have to carry stock in-store? Value of figures held in stock will be massively reduced knocking more of the outgoings off the balance sheet too.

I also have a feeling that Shitecast is a stop-gap measure.

Apparently there was also an insurance issue regarding the value of stock held in there stores, it seems to be the theme that whenever it gets mentioned the stores were hugely under insured as GW didn't/couldn't want to pay the premiums. The other bits I've overheard is that GW has internally written off the first production run of shitecast and are pinning the hopes on a much improved quality second run.
