Nothing stopping you copying the design and modelling it yourself though.

Why not use guitar wire? Same effect, no problems (I presume- surely their ban on non-GW stuff only covers other mini companies; if not, they\'re bonkers).

On a side note, how do GW know if you\'ve used another companies bitz? I\'m not talking something really obvious here, like a whole mini, just parts. Do they have an uber-geek in the back who\'s memorised *everything* ever made by every company? That\'s what I like to imagine, anyway!

am sure their are individuals at GW who are keeping an eye on wot the competition are doing, as for the cables, id use em, the effect is similar to guitar wire, their just much easier to use. if someone pulled u up over using them they would have to be very pathetic individuals. i think the rules are their to advertise GW products, if its on a GW product and GW dont make a parallel product then i cant see the issue....

I\'m sure the cast wire is no problem, just as using competitors paints, burshes, basing materials (Like woodland scenics etc.), display plinths and so on won\'t DQ a model.
GW is strict in the actual mini, but the odd piece from a different company that is not actually a mini shouldn\'t be a problem.

If something is obviously taken from another miniature range, it could get you dq\'ed. They won\'t raise a big stink about it, but they might quietly push your mini to the side and take it out of consideration.
I don\'t imagine that some shell casings or power cables would get you in trouble. But say having an arm/head/weapon swapped out from a Confrontation or Warmachine figure is certainly gonna be a problem.

My point being, you hear a lot of things. If judges really acted this way it would be a cold day before a lot of \"professional\" painters entered the GD. For one thing a lot of winners go on the online auction block later.

Taken word for word from the GW Golden Demons rules page from the UK Site.
All models should be the work of a single hobbyist. All work on models entered into the Golden Demon - including but not limited to painting, modeling, converting, after-market sculpting, and basing ? must be performed entirely by the entrant. Neither models obtained from someone else in any state of completion nor collaborative efforts may be entered. Anyone found violating this rule will be immediately disqualified and forbidden from entering future Golden Demon painting competitions.
I guess you can interpret that how you wish.
While I know many modelers who have purchased my power cables from me and used them on Games day entries and won, I cannot confirm nor deny it.
Now I know for a fact, it has varied from competition to Competition. I know in the UK models with parts from kits by companies like Tamiya have won, while this summer in Chicago an Ork Nob Biker was disqualified for having model tank parts on it from a Japanese company.
