Chavs...

lol!

This is really gathering momentum. Here\'s a link to a website about the Glasgow version - The Ned. Pretty funny stuff in places.

If you click on \'Belters\' on the menu and go down to sounds, there\'s a good sound file called \'What is a Chav\'... also, check out \'The brick shop\' - has a bit of bad language, but it\'s mainly in a Glasgow accent... :D

Isn\'t IQ more about your ability to think fast, abstract and logical, than what they teach in school?
My friend studies psychology at the Stockholm University and she tested me with the IQ-test that are being used by the authorities in Sweden as a part of her education, and there were no such questions about \"common knowledge\", but more about remembering long series of numbers backwards and forwards, discovering patterns in a number of symbols, and stuff like that.

It was fun :)

EDIT: My point being that a person who never went to school can still have a very high IQ.

Hey, I teach people every day who may (or may not) have a high IQ. The thing is that they are so delinquent that they never even give themselves the opportunity to find out. They find it impossible to listen or even interact with anyone or anything in a civilised fashion. I am not exaggerating here either. I have been astounded at the depths that have been plumbed by some of the schools in Bradford recently. It\'s not just one or two either. A generation of miscreants awaits us. I\'m seriously considering leaving Britain:(

Hate to tell you Scott, but I don\'t know where you\'d go.:D
It\'s pretty much the same around here. I have friends who are teachers at various levels of education and they all tell the same story. I know several other European countries have the same situation and it\'s probably the same in the rest as well as in the US. Maybe Canada?? ???

Trust me, the States are every bit as full of the little b@stards.

The only proof I need to see that today\'s generation is a slide backwards toward the primordial muck was a recent article I read stating that \'polls show the 18-29 demographic list The Fast and The Furious as their favorite movie\'.

Lessee...just in the last three years or so we\'ve had the LOTR trilogy, a brilliant Spider-Man and great X-Men flick *just in the sci-fi/fantasy genre* that blow the t*ts off that Fast and Furious crap...that\'s not even counting the \'serious\' movies out there...

Buncha tossers...launch \'em into the sun.

I though that you couldn\'t do accurate IQ on people that are older then somwhere around 12. ???
And anyway I really don\'t think that IQ as anything to do with it, I\'m pretty sure some of them have high IQ they just are dilinquent with an IQ (that\'s probably worst then if they didn\'t ).
And spacemunki I think you could try africa it should be pretty safe from the chavs for the time beeing :p France is no good unless you come and live in rich neigbhorhood were we don\'t see much of them, but guess that\'s the same in the UK.

You are right, partially...

IQ tests generally end up providing three figures, Verbal IQ, Performance IQ and Full Scale IQ which is a combination of the first two.

Performance IQ tests are as you describe, but verbal IQ tests generally have some element of general knowledge, numeracy, and comprehension in them. You can therefore have a sky-high Performance IQ without ever having been to school, but your Verbal IQ will be rock bottom:duh:

The general public perception of \'IQ\' is of Full Scale IQ and thus, will include learned elements.

It does seem that \"style over substance\" rules in just about every aspect of life nowadays.

And I think there is a definate \'dumbing down\' taking place throughout society. Take Jay Leno\'s Tonight Show (really please take it..) when he has his little \"man on the street\" type interviews and people struggle to name the President of the United States, but know exactly how many Austin Powers movies there are, and can recite the dialog verbatim...

You can be forgiven, provided you know better than to call that piece of tripe your favorite movie ever.

:D

(in other words...I think you\'re a pretty clear exception to the \'launch into the sun\' rule)

@IPM: Have you never heard of \'original sin\'? :D
We must all be forgiven... even if we haven\'t done anything.

*edit* at least if you\'re christian...

I\'ve been looking for an original sin
One with a twist and a bit of a spin
And since I\'ve done all the old ones
Til they\'ve all been done in
Now I\'m just looking for an original sin...

(sorry...didn\'t mean to go all Meat Loaf on you folks)

lol

so now I\'m prayin\' for the end of time, so hurry up man arrive, if I have to spend another minute with you, I don\'t think that I would barely survive. I\'d never break my promise, or forgot my vows, but God only knows what I would do right now...praying for the end of time so I can end my time with you....

(sorry, but you can beat a good Meatloaf, even cold and leftover it is still pretty damn good!)lollol

I\'ve been looking for an original sin
One with a twist and a bit of a spin
And since I\'ve done all the old ones
Till they\'ve all been done in
Now I\'m just looking -
Then I\'m gone with the wind -
Endlessly searching for an original sin
You can dance forever, you got a fire in your feet
But will it ever be enough? You know that it\'ll never be enough
You can fly in never land and never need to sleep
But will it ever be enough? You know that it\'ll never be enough
It\'s not enough to make the nightmares go away
It\'s not enough to make the tears run dry
It\'s not enough to live a little better every day
Everything that they taught us was nothing but lies
Everything they they brought us was nothing but bribes
But it\'ll all be over now
All I wanted was a piece of the night
I never got an equal share
When the stars are out of sight
And the moon is down -
The natives are so restless tonight
I\'ve been looking for an original sin
One with a twist and a bit of a spin
And since I\'ve done all the old ones
Till they\'ve all been done in
Now I\'m just looking -
Then I\'m gone with the wind -
Endlessly searching for an original sin
You can lose yourself in pleasure \'til your body\'s going numb
But will it ever be enough? You know that it\'ll never be enough
You can always take whatever you conceivably could want
But will it ever be enough? You know that it\'ll never be enough
It\'s not enough to make the nightmares go away
It\'s not enough to make the tears run dry
It\'s not enough to live a little better every day
Everything that they taught us was nothing but lies
Everything that they brought us was nothing but bribes
But the lies are over now
All I wanted was a piece of the night
It never had to get so dark
When the stars are out of sight
And the moon is down -
The natives are so restless tonight
I\'ve been looking for an original sin
One with a twist and a bit of a spin
And since I\'ve done all the old ones
Till they\'ve all been done in
Now I\'m just looking -
For an original sin
I\'ve been looking for the ultimate crime
Infinite victims, infinitesimal time -
And I\'m so very guilty for no reason or rhyme
So now I\'m just looking
And I\'m killing some time -
Endlessly searching for the ultimate crime
I\'ve been looking for an original sin
One with a twist and a bit of a spin
And since I\'ve done all the old ones
Till they\'ve all been done in
Now I\'m just looking -
Then I\'m gone with the wind
Endlessly searching for an original sin
I\'m applying for a license to thrill
Going out on the edge, moving in for the kill
They\'ll be hell to pay someday
So put it all on the bill
Cause we\'ll always be paying, and paying until
We\'re beyond expiration, with a license to thrill
I\'ve been looking for an origial sin

i dont listen to meat loaf...only time id ever even heard of him was Rocky Horror Picture Show
