Halfords Screenwash - Just checking

Having read the recomendation of using Halfords screenwash as a medium for thinning acrylics for use in airburshes, just want to check that its the same stuff I\'ve just persuaded my Mum to buy as we\'d run out for the cars - crafty - me - never

Yep that\'s what was recommended to me.
The real Airbrush Thinner is the \"Best thing\" but for economy this is more money in your pocket at the end of the day.

As long as it is not an amonia based cleaner, it should be fine.

Amonia based cleaners will evenually take the chrome plating off any of the plated internal parts. (Vega\'s have a chrome plated cone & tip).

Forgive my ignorance ???

But I use water to successfully thin down GW paint for use in an airbrush.

How does purpose made thinner or screen wash perform?

Screenwash has some alcohols in it. Dries faster. Also has detergents in it. Suspends the paint better (flow aid).

You can do the same thing with water, Take a liter or quart, add a drop or two of dish soap and you\'ve added flow aid.

Add a bit of Vodka or Everclear and you\'ve accelerated the dry time. Carefull, too much and the paint will dry before it hits the surface (temp & humidity play major factors as well).

Hell No!.
My next door neighbour\'s Ukrainian. Every time she visits her sister there she brings back some \"Nameless\" vodka.
I\'ve only have one \'shot glass\' of the stuff and lost 20 minutes of my life.
Crap knows what it would do to my minis.

actually, the windshield fluid over here uses methanol (wood alcohol) in the mix instead of drinking alcohol, just guessing, 5-10% of the mix. Enough to give it a bit of smell and make the fluid evaporate a bit faster than water is all. And I believe it helps keep everything in suspension.

But, it is hard to go into the local drug store and ask for a bottle of methanol.
