Mmm'k. Here we go again. Good strong clamp that saves hand from cramping when holding really tiny parts.
As far as the Shish kebab stick goes, just use something strong. I used it because it was simply at hand and it's pretty strong wood (bamboo??).
Leather being slightly spongy, it's real good for gripping things and not, so long as you don't try to prove your manhood with the wing nut, smashing detail from the surface of the mini.
