Hanging Moss

Good Evening All,

What would be the best way to create a hanging moss effect? Does Woodland Scenics carry a foliage product that imitates hanging moss? I have some clump foliage, but I think that it is too thick. I am thinking of something more stringy.

Thanks,

Richard

If you\'re looking at Woodland Scenics, you probably want to look at their Lichen, which is similar to Clump-Foliage but a bit more stringy:

or their Foliage (different from Clump Foliage):

(now if only we can get Leopard Pixie or someone to chime in, and keep the streak of California replies going! :) )

I\'d imagine... (Just guessing here as I haven\'t actually tried it yet)

But to colour the lint I\'d make a wash of whatever colour you want (Probably red/brown yellow/green) and simply allow the lint to soak it up...

I never thought about the dryer lint. I will give it a go tonight to see how it looks. Otherwise, I will head out to the hobby shop this weekend for some of the Woodland Scenics Lichen or Foliage.

Looks like I didn\'t get here in time to continue the CA string...oh well.

So much the better as I have no idea how to achieve hanging moss... lol

I specialise in Belly Button fluff.

I did hanging moss on this piece here:
Haldir

I glued thin bits of sprue to the base and covered it with glue and dipped it in sand. Then I painted the sand like moss.

Hope that helps.

I took a look at some dryer lint and what came out of my dryer was a little too fine. However, I found a bag of poly-fil (polyester fiberfill) in my storage room. I took a small bunch out of the bag, dipped it in a small cup with a few drops of GW Dark Green Ink, and now it is sitting out to dry. So far it looks like it may pass for some moss. Once the ink is dry I will post some pics to let you decide. Right now it looks like I may have to trim it a little and possibly give it a light coat of glue to make it hang straight and give it some more volume, but it looks it just may work. Thanks for the inspiration.

Here is a quick pic of Woldwarden - WIP with the poly-fil hanging moss draped over it\'s arm.

I think that putting the light coat of glue will give it that wet mossy look and will allow me to higlight it better than with just the dry poly-fil. If it does not work out, I will take a look at the Woodland Scenics items mentioned earlier.

It looks like it may work - although I think that\'s rather a heavy amount of moss that you put on the WIP...

In fact - it looks a bit like those pan scourers you can get - would they work pulled apart...?

compairing it to FL spanish moss, it is too green. Our stuff is a very pale green. And it does not grow up from the joint, just starts there and hangs down so do not drape it over the arm, but attach it to the lower half of the arm.
