Seeing as this is the last time I plan on being on a computer for while, I thought I\'d jump in and be the first to wish everyone a happy easter.

Happy Easter

If you are travelling anywhere, stay safe, otherwise, hope you all have a good break.

Hmmmm - just a clarification. Christ rising from the dead didnt have much to do with paganism.

The dating Shawn. The Christians borrowed the date and some of the customs from the pagans to make it easier to convert them to Christianity. The Church as done this with several holidays.
Or in the words of Peter Griffion \"We will learn the lanuge of the flea, then mate with their women. And pretty soon our differents will disappear.\" lol

Oh and HAPPY EASTER you all. Rember to protect your cholate bunny ears from rampaging mothers lollol???

I\'m honestly NOT looking for a fight. History and such is just interesting to me. Christmas IS on (or very near) a pagan holiday, the winter solstace. The Catholic church, when going into I believe northern Europe put Christmas ontop of the prexisting holiday. Christ\'s actual birth was, I believe in spring time.

Easted is definately attached to the Jewish Passover which is an established date. Am told some of the paraphanelia attached to it has some pagan roots. Mainly eggs which have some significance in pagan rites. I think.

Again, not looking for a fight. Just interested in history.

Didn\'t mind to bring up an historical debate, just think that paganism is way cool:D

Seriously, I think it has to do with the eggs alot, and also the fact that it is not fiting in the roman calendar at a fix date, but instead based on the first moon after the spring equinox.. we could add dancing naked around a fire... so it sounds a lot like paganism :p

Besides, talk to any kid about easter, and they will mention the chocolate eggs a long time before Christ.

We should consider selling chocolate Jesus on Crucifix to make sure the true meaning of easter is not totally forgotten.

I know, that\'s awful blasphemy, i\'m off for some flagelation now...

But you wouldn\'t consider getting religious training from children would you? Asking a child is not the litmus test for a religious holiday. I think that as the child grows older, the true meaning of religious customs tend to be better understood....nothing wrong with making it fun and memorable for the children while they can.

I\'d prefer Gummi Jesus to chocolate crucified Jesus....:D

That has more to do with the Jewish calendar and the date of Passover.
But yes, several other religious bits have made it into the Christian holiday. The spring equinox is the holy day for lots of other religions. And the proximity of the two dates have caused some things to cross over.
