Has someone got a spare 15 minutes

Ok I submitted my bane knight a week back (approx) and while I have had some \"good job\" comments (which I do appreciate) I have not had any \"do this better you schmuck\" comments (which will help more I believe).

I have recently taken the time to comment more fully on a couple of submissions and I feel it helped me look more critically at the minis in question and I hope it will help the painters I commented on.

So what I am asking (in a round about, long wided way) is if anyone would do the same for me. Have a good look at the links below and give me as detailed a break down on what you think I should improve on (and suggestion on how if you can).

It seems messy, to be frank, as if red paint has been slapped on at random, though the rest of the blending is fantastic. I understand that it\'s meant to be rust, but I\'m just trying to find a fault here. It\'s a nice mini, but some of it just seems rushed.

The red, on the sword/blades it looks like blood and on the armour it looks like blood. But on the armour it looks like rust and on the blades it looks like rust!? Im not sure which is which, im guessing on is blood and one is rust, but its very hard to tell them apart.

Well you know my thoughts on the authenticity of the patina...

You schmuck, you could have done the following better:

There is a funny looking dark shade line down the side of the shield (from the front view it\'s the side closer to the grass), it\'s very artificial looking.

The brown line at the base of the bone spiky-horne thingies looks just like a brown line, it should either be much thinner as in a black/brown/whatever line or it should be drawn up slightly into the horn to represent the dark base part of the horn as I think you intended it to (don\'t ask me what it\'s called).

There happy now schmuck?

PS: Schmuck is such a good word, hope I didn\'t overuse it? :drunk:

It\'s a dificult one to comment on. As you said you were looking for a kind of corroded aged feeling, and I think you got that.
I think what it\'s lacking is definition between the different areas, it seems to merge together which is what gives it the \'messy\' uncontrolled feeling.
You could work more on the highlights, but I wouldn\'t do it as I think you\'d lose the aged look, I\'d go for some careful black lining and deep ink washes to differentiate the different armour plates,the sections on the weapon, the cloth and his body/face etc.
I reckon he\'s covered in blood splaters myself, the rust if any is minimal.

Sure Doc,
I think you achieved what you set out to do with this one, and done a great job.
As said before, and maybe defining each element, with a deeper shade to make it look cleaner, sharper. I\'m not good at these type of minis, but theres a couple of things to be thinking about. I\'d say just keep painting minis to the best of your ability,and I for one will tell you how I see them

On a (very) positive note, you made this a unique model. The colour choices are spot on and he stands out as something different. Tidy up the paintjob and keep that style and you\'ll get some high scoring minis I reckon.

I have the rest of the unit to play with once I am done with Iron painter, GD and a manticore I promised a guy almost a year ago.

well you Schmuck!....
they all beat me to it really,but I\'ll add a few bits...
the red is a bit too bright for the effect you want, the blood should be a bit darker as if dried, if it\'s fresh blood however it needs to \"shine\" as if it\'s still wet
make the rust a little more orangey to distinguish it (I just use thinned orange ink or a glaze for rust)
I just remembered I actually collected some real rust from an old Iron plate (BBQ) I\'d left out in the rain, must get round to testing it out. That\'s really quite orangey
