Hasslefree is a misnomer with painting

So I got it in my head to do a diorama (it\'s in progress) but I had to share the two little minis I have in hand thus far. They are the Hasslefree Zombie killing children. I thought they\'d be small, but these things are... I think there\'s more metal in a bobby pin.

I am trying to get the hang of getting reds down well... Peter\'s shirt looked a bit pink at first, then orange... I hope he looks okay.

It was an exercise in steady handed-ness. Katie was by far the worst, because her bangs messed up her eyes, which messed up her face, which messed up her shoes... you know how it is. I\'m still fairly happy with her, though she looks a bit to me like a local politician, and that makes me laugh.

I am really happy with how Peter came out. I wanted to put a pattern on his shirt, but then figured that was insanity at this point.

I am hoping my painting\'s improving, as well as my picture taking ability (new camera comes tomorrow... so I\'ll have to learn all over again. :)

Those are some really tiny minis. It looks like you\'ve done a pretty good job, especially considering the incredibly small size of them. Look forward to seeing the diorama you have in mind. Voted.

Hi all, and thanks. :)

There are only these two kids in the diorama, and Zombie Ashlee Campbell (the seller messed up and sent me a very health Ashlee Campbell, so I have to wait on finishing the diorama.)

Because these are so small, I am going to base the whole thing on a CD, and then mount it on a nice stand. I was planning on having the Zombie mini looking as though she\'d freshly emerged, and the kids off to the side ready to attack.

I actually did a small grave scene on a CD earlier, with foam, spackle, some rounded hirst blocks and a headstone we bought on clearance at Michael\'s after Halloween. It looked really cool, which was kind of the impetus for doing these guys.

Will definitely post pics when Ashlee arrives, paints up, and is in place.

I know I could probably use a generic zombie, but I do like the Hasslefree sort of sculpts all together.

In retrospect, Peter did come out a lot better than Katie, I think. But Peter was also a much nicer sculpt... His lines were clearer and easier to see, and he didn\'t have those frickin\' bangs which made everything so complicated on Katie\'s face.

It gives me new appreciation for all those beautiful Amoy minis I\'ve seen painted on here (fluffy\'s comes to mind first, but there are a few).

I have been painting about two months now, and I\'ve discovered the smaller the mini is, I actually do a little better with it. Very odd.

There is no doubt they are very small minis. You have done a good job on them. Did the vote thing and eagerly await the finished product.

The Finished Product

Rather than start a new thread, here is a shot of the finished project:

You can do the votey vote thing if you want. I am trying to get a better picture, but I\'m still on the learning curve with the new digital camera (it\'s an SLR! Wooooo!)

Votey vote, if you so choose:

I really rather like this you know. It\'s painted well enough considering the size of the minis, and the scene works pretty well I think.

Possible improvements for me would be trimming down some of the masses of grass to show more of the rocks below (I don\'t mind it being wild and all over the place, but I think you have overdone it slightly) and also tilting the children so they are facing more towards the zombie. At the moment it looks a bit like they are in conversation.

Oh, and you get a bonus point for your fine thread title here! :D

Thanks all. That is a problem I have. I really tend to make things grassy. I actually didn\'t mean to this time, but the damn static grass got away from me (something about spiders crawling out of the container, and a total black out and applying too much glue.)

Funny thing about the conversation look... my husband said the same thing. I think you\'re both right, of course, in retrospect I should have put Peter and Katie closer together, to look as though they were all squaring off.

I\'m still rather happy with the way it came out, but I think it might be a little too busy. Something about it is really cool, but something else is a little jarring.

I also did a diorama with Sadie in a statuary. I built the statuary months ago, and was so attached to it I wouldn\'t sell it or let my husband play with it (I\'m so mean.) Then I got Hasslefree\'s Sadie, and she seems to mesh with it well. Broke out the dremel, and pinned her in.

If you want to take a look at her as well: Link to Sadie
